Wally Francis
I know the guy selling these tunes, (He has asked that i keep it to myself) he has guest dj'd for me in the past at various venues that i promoted and co-promoted in Middlesbrough and Newcastle. When i got told that he was selling up i tried to get to see them but he would'nt let me, as i was wanting to obviously just cherrypick my way through them but he wants them to go as a job lot, (and he considers me a friend as well) I know that he's kept approx 150 back as his personal favs if he ever wants to play them out again, (mainly classics) I do know that the guy used to regularly get the soulpacks from soulbowl every couple of weeks in the early 80's and to my knowledge i've never seen or heard of him selling any before. Demolished in 1973. right ! but we used to jump the train to wigan ! i remember the car park and the cinema but nothing that resembled a railway line ? i've just googled it , it was on the A49 Riverway which is the next road down it's now a duel carrageway but the carpark could have been a goods yard ? I was there - good spot. We exchanged messages about your Middlesbrough days when you use to contribute to Ian Levines's ANS site. Often walk up Hillside with the dog - I live over at Crooksbarn. Just think when you were at Chertsey Avenue your were about half a mile (Brambles Farm) from one of the most respected collectors and collections in 70's - Bob Slater -you never know what is lurking! Excuse my irritation with this thread - but I don't understand why it is causing so much interest - a bloke has put an item up for sale on ebay and described it accurately and honestly as far as I can see - he ain't promising mega rarities - to quote him ...'there is a mixture of original vinyl, pressings, re-pressings, re-issues etc and even describes the 'bonus' as '..... might be a load of junk...'. You pays your money and you takes your choice).... let him get on with it. Mike 3 Link to comment Social source share

Guest Matt Male
what does this mean "There is also a number of double AA side lables so there is potentially 700+ records in this box"? I think he means the flipside also gets plays out, double siders as opposed to literally two A sides. Shouldn't increase the price though. Link to comment Social source share
boba
I think he means the flipside also gets plays out, double siders as opposed to literally two A sides. Shouldn't increase the price though. it was weirder, apparently a record with two different songs increases the number of total records. Also, he said there were 600 records, but the 2-sided records add another 100? So 500 of the records have the same song on both side? I'm confused reading his ad. I agree it's confusing but I think it means there are 600 records, 100 of which have 'good' (different) tracks on both sides (being reissues) making 700 different 'good' tracks in the box. Guest allnightandy
IMHO i think it's a box of crap ! if he was a dj he would know his collections value , as for turn up anywhere and dj well yes you could if you were already a working dj and you bought them but why would you ? i have been to many "Do's" over the last few years and with the obvious exception of soul gigs where such behaviour would result in a lynching most dj's seem to have everything on a computer i spoke to one who had 40,000 tunes on his hard drive i think this lot might well have many northern tunes in it but i feel it's aimed at a dj who gigs where the people neither know nor care what is on the deck just what is emitted from the speakers ! boba
Not northern not particularly rare but not crap some nice stuff in there . I agree, it's not a box of bootlegs, it's a decent collection of mainstream soul music, an instant collection for someone. I remember when I was just starting on ebay, I would go nuts over lots with some cool local records in them (not exactly like this one) and would always get into a bidding war. That's what happened here, if you look at the bid history there was a bidding war knocking the price up from $150. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Agree, Not everyone grades their records the same unfortunatly, one mans/womens vg+ is anothers mint - I buy most weeks from a seller who under grades in the buyers favour. On the other hand ive been stung on occcasion, ive recieved a record or two in shocking condition,I wouldnt have had the neck to have even put them up for sale in the first place.
