MrsWoodsrules
Most black music coming out of Detroit from mid to late sixties, but my tastes have changed from when I was a 'young en' at Wigan, cringe at some of the pop stuff we liked back than, amongst all the great tunes we were brought up on. And as I was away from the scene for a couple of decades after Wigan, I'm still catching up & discovering some great stuff I never knew back then, stuff like Combinations, Louis Paul, Salt & Pepper, Blendels, Fortson & Scott, so always getting into some that's new to me. Also like my music a bit mid to down tempo too, that's probably an age thing, but a lot of that 'Riker' music wasn't very good. But do have eclectic tastes too, from Jazz or Mozart to Joy Division but soul always takes centre stage for me. Like Sharon Jones 'Soul Time' too, good to think this stuff is coming out these days. Guest Preems
I like some of the popcorn records quite a lot! Sherri Taylor on PG/GLORECO of course crosses into northern, popcorn, and r'n'b genres... I love doo-wop, soul, funk, rnb, latin, popcorn, and and the odd tittyshaker as well. Also love chicago house and italo disco tho..... Link to comment Social source share

boba
When I was in junior high school (7th-8th grade) one day kids started coming in with these shirts that changed color based on heat. So if you put your hand on them there was a handprint, and it would (unflatteringly) highlight your sweaty areas, etc. The shirts were called Generra Hypercolor (Generra was the brand name). Every time I see this thread title I think of those stupid shirts. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Guest Gazfunk
I mainly like funk type stuff (including some stuff like Little Francisco Greaves from Panama, & Jay Mitchell Goombay Bump from Bahamas), Hammond stuff/KPM Library grooves, latin stuff like the more uptempo Joe Bataan, Harvey Averne, Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria, Ray Barretto. I've been listening to a lot of German stuff recently - big band tunes that has the library sound, but with a psychedelic edge to it. Some funky psych, a bit of afrobeat plus classic soul. Throw in a bit of the more funky jazz (some of the Blue Note comps for example) and that's most of what I dig. I like some r&b but get bored of a whole night of it as it sounds samey to me, much like ska/reggae. Not a particularly big fan of Northern, though some is o.k. Don't like Modern soul or disco or house (or any "dance" music for that matter) Link to comment Social source share
Guest Richard Du Shon
I like what I like; I can't define it any better than that. I judge music on what I feel are its own merits. I know a fair bit about music but not enough about genres to be able to answer this question any other way. I like a wide variety of music; I'm lucky that way. My passion, to try & answer the question, is music I LOVE rather than just like. I'm also lucky that there's a lot of music I do love. I just hope my ears don't give out as I get older.
