Collecting Paper Sleeves

Recommended Posts

I store all the sleeves for 6 months or so in the garage, intend to do something with them, realise I never will, then I throw them all away.

I did give a few hundred away a few years back but something happened to put me off doing it again, can't remember what, they either didn't send me the postage or something.

So now I just chuck them all away, even the British which I collect - the records I mean.

I'll send you the postage now Pete as advanced payment :)

That's a serious proposal

Hi Andy,

Need to find them but I got a boat load of sleeves from John at the Bowl and to be honest, as I'm selling pretty much all the stuff, I'll never use them. Got shed loads of Motown (Red, Blue, VIP, Gordy, White ,Sound Of..., Black Penny Farthing, Yellow Penny Farthing, Red Deck, and there's a couple of strange Tamla ones too). Also got quite a number of UK things. CBS sleeves, Virgin, Ensign. What are you looking for coz you can have them when I find them.

Best

this brings up another issue with the sleeves. The tangerine one is nice because it's thick glossy paper. Usually when you get a record in the original company sleeve (which was printed on super thing paper), the sleeve is split and it's not a very effective way to hold the record. I'll usually throw it out and replace it with a heavy gold sleeve.

First done by The Del-Royals on Mercury in October 1969 then 10 years later Tyrone Barkley's version caused much excitement across dancefloors in the north of england and beyond.

Seem to think Lou Rawls had a go at the song on Capitol - he might have even done it first - but haven't heard it or know where it fits in the timeline of releases.
