A few months ago I discovered that some copies of a record my band recorded in 1968 had made it to the UK and Germany. I am posting a link to the song on Youtube. Can someone let me know if the song was ever popular or if you ever heard it played in any of the clubs? Our manager just released a cd of our 2 songs and 14 others that he had produced in the 1960's - 1980's. Some of it isn't bad but our two songs (Hurry on Back to Me and Up on the Roof) are the only northern soul songs on the disc.

I'm working on a book that is a discography of soul groups that cut records between like 1960 and 1990. We currently list your record but without any info. Can you supply the membership of the keymar 45 as well as what each person did. Is the group from Baltimore? Did any of the members record with any other groups? I'm sorry, I don't know enough about the northern soul scene to tell if your record ever got played in clubs but I'm sure someone here could answer that. thanks, Bob

Stan Turk guitar, Larry Reed bass, Larry Davidson sax, Larry Hale drums, Art Yates trombone, Brian Pinson vocals. Stan went on to play with a number of groups and is an attorney now. Larry Reed and I worked in a group, Heyokas from 1969 until 1975 (I left the band and he stayed on for awhile). I worked in some blues and Top 40 bands and a wedding band. My last regular group was a cajun band, The Riverdale Ramblers in 2003 - 2005. I think Stan and I are the only two who are still playing and I'm not with a group right now. We had a band reunion in November and everyone was present. I posted a picture of the group in my other introduction thread. Are you Robert Pruter? If so your book Doowop the Chicago scene is like a gospel of DooWop.
boba Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Thanks so much for the info! No I am not Bob Pruter (but I do know him). There actually is a law in Chicago that says that at least 75% of the soul music collectors need to be named Bob (at least it seems that way). Thanks again.
Guest Lorenzo1950 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 No problem. There is a book "Baltimore Sounds" written by Joe Vaccarino that lists just about every Baltimore band from 1950 - 1980. Joe interviewed me a few years ago about some of my bands. It is really difficult to come up with a timeline for the groups. I was working from memory and I think 80% of what I told him was correct. I have a good memory for events but not specific dates. He wanted me to let him know about the other members of the groups and I could not give specifics about their activities. You almost have to interview each group member to filter out the information.

There's a wealth of knowledge on here about soul music of all kinds, and there's always people hungry for information to help them fill any gaps of their knowledge (like Boba ) I have to echo Steve's comment from above, you'll fit in here just fine!
