Cheltsoulnights Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Just heard stop the baby and im confused is the uk release of i'll be your fool the same record?
Guest gordon russell Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) yes.........top tune.....on chess Edited January 12, 2012 by gordon russell
Pete Eccles Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 The UK release is a different title, heard somewhere it had to be changed due to some kinda protest from the anti-abortion movement, dunno how true but makes sense,
pikeys dog Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Got both and don't recall it being the same track - it is a couple of years since i played the Chess copy and I've never played them back to back - but my memory tells me that it's a similar/ or the same backing tune but different lyrics/tempo?
Brav Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Two different records, 1 released in 69 and the other 71

pikeys dog Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 not confusing UK COPY plays stop instead of fool easy eh Spot on. Just listened to my UK copy and can confirm it plays "Stop The Baby".
Pete Eccles Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Spot on. Just listened to my UK copy and can confirm it plays "Stop The Baby". I as much as said this in post 3, I incorrectly thought 'I'll be your fool' was the title given to the UK issue of 'stop' without realising it was already the title of another record, if that makes sense, so Bravs post kinda caught me off gaurd,
Cheltsoulnights Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 Spot on. Just listened to my UK copy and can confirm it plays "Stop The Baby". Thought so, i bought my uk copy at Yate and never knew about the usa one till now. Thanks all
Windlesoul Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 (edited) Cant play the utube clips at work but I've got the Conlo one, heard both 'releases' of 'Stop...' before and I'm sure the Conlo's a bit more meaty, the Conlo one is the one that got played around the usual Scottish venues in the 80's Edited January 17, 2012 by mark w.

Guest BIG H Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 A popular tune for Colin Law if my memory serves me right. gary It was Mark Linton who used to play this Gary, got this on a tape from Mark in mid 80's after he's 2 year 'break' from the soul scene, was deff pre Alanton cant remember what he had it covered up as, but it was a great tape all his biggies at the time, Preston Peters, covered up as Saxie Russell, Soul Messengers, Contessa's still covered up as Twans, his Eddie Bishop c/u, Whispering Shadows the man had some tunes and great taste

He had some great tunes, I've got a tape somewhere from him that I must dig out and listen to. If I find it I'll let you know what's on it for comparison. gary
Guest gordon russell Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 stop the baby ...on conlon..........is the same as .....i,ll be your fool on british chess not american chess

Nickinstoke Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I was playing this today - they also got the B sides wrong. The black Chess flip is supposed to be "Jamo soul" but it plays "Snake hip Mama", the other side of I spy. Anyone know the story behind this?
Eamesy Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Was played a bit at Yate by Paul Guntrip, my UK Chess demo, always went down well!!
Lenny Harkins Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 It was Mark Linton who used to play this Gary, got this on a tape from Mark in mid 80's after he's 2 year 'break' from the soul scene, was deff pre Alanton cant remember what he had it covered up as, but it was a great tape all his biggies at the time, Preston Peters, covered up as Saxie Russell, Soul Messengers, Contessa's still covered up as Twans, his Eddie Bishop c/u, Whispering Shadows the man had some tunes and great taste Spot on Harry , I got this off Mark early 90s... And still got plenty if miles out it. Great taste he had.
Robbk Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 69 & 71? I don't think so google says 65 & 66 This is correct for the Conlo and Chess US releases.
