Guest brummiemick Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) Whilst browsing ITunes tonight I came across the above track which I really liked on a 1994 Album called Motown: Lost & Found by Marvin Gaye. Is it considered Northern Soul and is as the title of the LP suggests a "lost and found" track that didn't surface till decades later? And if so would and could it ever be played out on original vinyl? More generally how are "found" tracks played out if they are not on original vinyl or are they just not? kevinsoulman Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 I'VE OFTEN WONDERED ABOUT THIS IN THIS WORLD OF CD'S WITH NO LP RELEASE NO INITIAL RELEASE IN THE 60'S OR WHENEVER AND IT IS AN OUT AND OUT DANCER WHAT HAPPENS. OVER TO THE SOUL POLICE KEV
Petebangor Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Soul Sam has had CD only tracks cut onto carvers and then played them out.
boba Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 More generally how are "found" tracks played out if they are not on original vinyl or are they just not? I think I've red references on here to several Djs having acetates cut of the material. It's okay, apparently a specific exception in the complicated OVO codes.
Popular Post Chalky Posted January 9, 2012 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2012 Play the cd.....it's the original format. What's the point spending nearly £30 on a cut? You can buy more vinyl or CDs with that. 4
Guest phillybuster Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 It's on the "Motown Remembers Marvin Gaye" LP.
Blake H Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 As, it looks like this question is resolved, could I ask a similar question please? Is the Marvin Gaye track 'I'm gonna give you respect' on any vinyl format? Blakey
Shinehead Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Has'nt the Motown Remembers lp got 80's overdubs on the tracks?
Carole P Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Yes I'm gonna give you respect is on vinyl.Marvi Gaye -Let's get it on-Vinyl Lovers label.Which is a double LP.
Guest phillybuster Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Play the G C Cameron version, it's better.
Sleeps45 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I heard an unreleased version of lets get it on that was really nice..
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Has'nt the Motown Remembers lp got 80's overdubs on the tracks? Yes, it has - this is one of the few tracks on that ghastly thing that sounds vaguely acceptable with the overdubs. You can get it without the overdubs on the aforementioned 'Lost And Found' CD, though.

Smudger Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 What is a carver? A blank disc has the groove turned (carved) into it as a one off copy of a piece of music as apposed to being stamped into vinyl. Will not last as long as stamped vinyl and not as good quality.

Vinyl Carvers were quality dubs IMO. Russ

Thats fine, so long as the venue has a CD player, in this day & age they should also have mp3 player too......unfortunately very few venues have either in thier old fashioned or misconceived interpretations of OVO. I dont want to have to carve unissued CD cuts to be honest, but depending on the venue it might be the only way you can play the track. Best Russ
Guest keithh Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Thanks for clarifying that. So is a carver the same as an acetate?
boba Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Thanks for clarifying that. So is a carver the same as an acetate? I don't think so. An acetate has a metal core with a coating. I think a carver is lathe cut directly into some sort of vinyl

Guest keithh Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I've always liked this track from the 'M P G' album from 1969, and thought how good this would sound pounding out of good speakers (well, it sounds good through headphones played very loud!) Has it ever got any plays?

I haven't heard this but am interested, its not off the deluxe CD re-issue of the album is it, link below? I don't have that but have its equivalent of WGO and there is some great alternative stuff on that. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lets-Get-Deluxe-Marvin-Gaye/dp/B00005O02R
