boba Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Monkey Meeks on Roxsbury is a terrible country record. Do not buy it.
pikeys dog Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Is there any other kind of Country record? Joke btw.
boba Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 I like Tammy Wynette. However, I hope Tony Rounce takes the bait and starts ranting though.
Kris Holmes Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 if you diss country you diss yourself...... i actually like a lot of country stuff, i will defend good country, but agree that bad country is terribly terrible.
Steve G Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Monkey Meeks on Roxsbury is a terrible country record. Do not buy it. Was it described as "northern soul totally unknown, brilliant dancer proven rarity, no one knows it, I've checked all the collectors bla bla" ?
boba Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 Was it described as "northern soul totally unknown, brilliant dancer proven rarity, no one knows it, I've checked all the collectors bla bla" ? no, i bought it for the label #. I have gotten country records that were described as "northern soul". More frequently people try to pass off hard rock records as soul, it's very annoying.

Well if you bought it for the label you can't blame anyone lol There are Country and western records on Okeh and Lena Zavaroni recorded on Stax

Just warning people who see it and think it might be some great obscure and unknown roxsbury label. Also, I was sort of annoyed because I've only ever found soul on the label.
Kris Holmes Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 I remember being really bummed out when i blind bought my first country 45 (not good country) on Chess.
Premium Stuff Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 On the same theme - also avoid this one - even though the band name sounds promising it's basically C&W Owen & Paul & The Drifters - Dear Mom (Giant #704) A darned shame Richard

KevH Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Monkey Meeks on Roxsbury is a terrible country record. Do not buy it. I think this is a double bluff.I want one.

Guest MrC Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I like BOTH types of music - Country AND Western :wicked:
boba Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 no, i either bought it buy-it-now or on musicstack for cheap. those sites only seem to be good for picking up weird label numbers. I have paid a lot for some terrible label numbers before though.
George G Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 This one? https://www.ebay.com/itm/MONKEY-MEEKS-TAKE-ME-YOUR-HEART-DJH0-0133-ROXBURY-PENTHOUSE-PRODUCTION-RECORD-/260925461636?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item3cc05e9484 Interesting that the writer is Billy Wade McKnight. I have a pretty good garage 45 by him on the Custom label from Texas. He also cut a dull 45 on the famous International Artists label (13th Floor Elevators, etc label). I think he cut some other stinkers.

But when I got them they actually ended up being really good. Also, one of them is like the longest 45 I've ever seen (maybe 7 1/2 minutes?) which was interesting.
