Chalky Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Think the last couple I'd seen were around £400, don't think either were mint. 1

Chalky Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 maybe bit more than I thought, last two (only two) popsike 1348 and 1062 dollars. Record that's always struggled with the dancefloor mind.

Windlesoul Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) Cheers guys, need to find one! Need to save a bit more than I thought though.... Edited January 7, 2012 by mark w.
Marc Forrest Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 paid more than 1000 usd for a mint copy from a us collection seven years ago if that is of any help to you
Ted Massey Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 John Weston has one paid a lot for it , it has to have one of the best intros to a northern record but the ending is fecking awful
neckender Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Four Andantes - Hipper than me - Mo Do; first copy came from soulbowl for £4. Found it on the shelves with some other Modo 45s. There was only one copy of the four andantes, but a few copies of each bob & gene releases.

There was only one copy of the four andantes, but a few copies of each bob & gene releases. A cracking dancer and ballad to match.. When Dave G first hooked up with the late Billy Nunn (label owner) very small multiples were there on some of the titles (predominantly the later releases) the odd acetate -one of which was the Four Andantes and the master tapes which Dave put out for Billy (fortunately before he passed away) .Billy apparently was a little reluctant to deal with anyone re the Mo-Do scenario because many years earlier (mid 70's) i think Rich Rosen had met him and bought whatever copies of the Andantes were left (a 25 count box) with roughly 12 copies or so for 25 cents each ! i'd suspect that U.S group buyers would have got them, maybe the copy on the shelves at soulbowl Mark mentions John got from Rich -who knows.. i would have thought the record should be a grand on rarity alone ,a definate tiny custom press.

Very interesting andy. Btw, as I remember, rich rosen bought those Modo 45s in the mid 9ts, as he offered me the odd title including the four andantes. Luckily for me (because richie wanted a lot of money for them) Id already picked up my copy from soulbowl in the early 8ts (pre-stafford period) John had at least a million soul 45s on the shelves at the time and the Modo 45s had been sitting there in the M section for a number of years before I went digging.
KevH Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Was the Alfred O single amongst the MoDo stuff? Or is that much later?

Ah well only twenty years out..At least the two scenario's come together and verify Rich as the buyer, come to think of it -i reckon Rich rang Browny up one time when i was there around that time and sold him a copy aswell as the Frankie Lymon on Big Apple for a fortune ! Another occasion Rich rang up and offered Tim that Reverand George Morton on HiQ for £2000 as a unknown ,by this time i think Browny had got wise to the slightly inflated deals and turned the offer down.. Also highly traumatic at the time the realisation he'd never own every soul 45 ! Memorable and funny times. Kev re the Alfredo 45 no idea's about soulbowl carrying stock (although probably ) from what Mark mentions ,but i got around 8 copies via what Billy Nunn had left and sold them to dj's like Paul Sado who in turn gave it some airplay .
KevH Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Cheers Andy.Sold my Alfred O (from PSadot, via yourself),one of the few i regret letting go.

Guest cenco Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) i spoke with billy nunn many years ago ,,like andy says he was reluctant but he gave me a name of the lead singer of the four andantes who i managed to track down he did'nt have a copy,,but he said they were a white group and most of the group were 15 and 16 and still in school when they recorded for modo,, he also told me they went onto be in a well known american band but cant remember who and i cant find my notes i made at the time Edited January 11, 2012 by cenco
boba Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I'm pretty sure ther was a photo either in the daptone modo cd or on this webpage about the label. I'm pretty sure they were black.
