The Kings of Pittsbugh Doo Wop who at one time boasted the likes of Chuck Jackson within the line-up, do Northern Soul!

Collecting British release Soul for the lifetime devotee sometimes hits the wall of "Got Nearly Everything" there is to have.

So in recent times when the Northern Soul jocks reverted back to the transitional R&B/Group sound and started playing this beautifully smooth mover from it's 1962 ABC 10341 release. It gave the Brit-vinyl forager this much-rare 1962 HMV UK release to try and seek out.

If your seeking, there is no finer example of the 45 than this near perfect 1962 English DEMO! View that alluring scan - listen to a skilled vocal group who's desire to keep with the times failed them as they ever achieved a hit for ABC and eventually split in 1965. Leaving the Northern Soul fan and the British collector with this fine legacy to chase.

Daly City Bob - I remember you sending me this Oakland indie as a new release. As so often happened when we went to order multiples from you. The record was out of stock @ "Music People" distributors. We never did get another copy from you.

Since those days of Bay Area new releases dropping through my letter box, this 45 has grown in reputation on the Soulful Rare scene both here and in Europe. Especially France - so today for a copy I sold fully 30 year previously to come home is quite pleasing.

The much-traveled Harvey Scales teams up with Walter Richardson crafting a sweet soul dance tune with a delicious vocal from Debravon Lewis - flip over for a vocal-group harmony stepper of the most-soulful kind!

Today, after Bob's efforts for a re-order floundered this 45 is very, very tough to find.

I'll Always Love You

Totally immaculate 1965 UK press crediting for the first time "The Spinners" as The DETROIT SPINNERS.

It is now well documented EMI's withdrawal of TMG 523 crediting The Spinners avoiding confusion with the already well established and hit making Liverpool folk group on Philips, thus giving birth to British christening that would stay with them on all subsequent UK releases.

If this decision was to promote sales, they may wonder why they bothered, as this revamp failed miserably and today is considered one of the harderTMG 500 series to acquire, especially in this pristine condition.

Just love the intro - the novel growling "rap" is smashed aside by a wall of brass, so what type of vocal could writer/producer Murray Wecht marry to that start?

Enter Ray Pollard, Tony Middleton, Roy Hamilton? No it's a man with equally vibrant tonsils - Doug Banks purring, growling Lionesque vocal is a perfect match for the big brass, string filled production, sweetened by a clean shrill girl group!

It's recordings like this that make me chuckle when you hear the likes of "Lewie Walsh" uninformed exaltation of mediocre vocals we endure during X-Factor. Thank heavens for Northern Soul and beings who delve deeper to discover exceptional music and voices!

i think there could have been a quantity scare from that magic touch person on ebay. or maybe the big hitters who wanted it for that much got copies already? or it could relate to the big hitters recovering from or still being on vacation.
