JOE TORQUAY Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Al Wilson Help Me How smug do I feel today - being able to offer "Wigan Casino" encapsulated in 2.15 seconds of total Northern Soul. The unleashing of that very first blow of the saxophone those who experienced "The Casino" will be catapulted back in time to 1974 - shoulder to shoulder miraculously missing your neighboring dancer and still be able to pull of a spin or back drop! Al Wilson's - Help Me - was "THE CASINO" @ 3.00am To find a PROMO copy today in Mint - condition without any sign of styrene fatigue is nothing short of miraculous! A 7" Casino-Trip of unparalleled proportions, for those lucky enough to witness it's affect almost 38 years ago. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 234.00 Gary Sole Holdin' On Click the sound-file - a swirling organ and blaring horns lift you up, ready to collide with Gary Sole's "distant" vocal style, the three components fuse into Northern Soul Utopia. For some it will jet them back to when Dave Raistrick's discovery, that led to every NS DJ in England playing this tune circa 1978? It of course became an instant Northern Soul MONSTER, who's reputation has since, never dimmed. Today all copies of Dave's "find" have been long swallowed up by the Northern Soul collecting hoover, leaving many of the "newer DJ / Collectors" with a glaring gap in their set and collection. Here's an opportunity to put that right... Rarely comes to market especially in this near perfect condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 613.00 Harvey Scales And The Seven Seas Trying To Survive C/w Bump Your Thang For today's British Rare Soul Dance scene this 45 is just darn perfect for dancefloor appreciation. Not only incredibly rare but also carrying that fusion of Soul n' Funk so in vogue. Punchy production, punctuated by emotional Soulful lyrics pushed along brass/guitar flowing groove, decorated by a smooth vocal group chorus, the timely instrumental breaks all come together creating a thoroughly infectious record that every soul-dancer would ignite to! Flipside the Funk is the harder and nearly as compelling. Two strong sides - absolutely perfect for TODAY! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 900.00 Chubby Checker You Just Don't Know (what You Do To Me) Only a few Northern Soul related UK release 45s are held in such high regard they are "stand-alone" pieces of iconic stature. This offering is exactly that! No Northern Soulie reading this will need any more words from me or anyone to lift this records status. But you may need reminding the title was never issued in the USA! Which can only offer the West Coast styrene promo or the unique one copy known East-Coast vinyl test press. That is why, even though this 45 has a needless biro squiggle on label (see scan) we feel the 45s importance in 2011 far outweighs this small flaw. Click the sound file and DANCE! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 334.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) Temptations Girl Why You Wanna Make Me Blue C/w Baby I Need You In the early 60s CBS of West Germany were given the privilege of releasingUSA most successful independent record label and presenting them in wonderful "unique" artist picture sleeves. Check out this pristine 1964 German release of the Temptations Northern Soul Motown anthem and the clothes it's wearing. Avid Motown addicts will drool over the thumbnail black and white artist pictures sitting back and front bordering this RARE SLEEVE that 99% were discarded or damaged within minutes of purchase. Picture of Little Stevie Wonder, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Mary Wells, Miracles, Contours, Supremes & The Marvelettes adorn and protect this desirable Dutch non-hit. Pressed in high fidelity vinyl. More than interesting, it's a piece of Motown "art" with the bonus of a killer tune inside! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 25.00 Silky Hargraves Keep Loving Me (like You Do) C/w You're Too Good (to Me Baby) Look at that scan and swoon. Listen to the sound file and enjoy a double-dosage of Detroit delights that few 45s can compare. A truly beautiful offering in equally beautiful condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 603.00 Bobby Burn I'm A Lonely Man C/w I'm A Dreamer On the previous lone occasion we have had the honor of listing exceptional 45 - most every serious soul collector was alerted to it's outstanding quality and ultimate rarity. This is of course BOBBY WILBURN the first local Atlanta, Georgia release of a recording that enjoyed a brief outing on Philly's Gamble label. That press is invariably encountered as a PROMO copy without offering the TWO sides. The Gamble stock copy is a whisker away from being as rare as this ridiculously elusive original CHANT promo. If the Essence Of Soul runs through your veins - take a deep breath - click the sound-file and await to be stirred to the core by Bobby J. Wilburn's two compositions delivered with all real-life passion Bill Haney's production can claw from Mr. Wilburn's Soul. Totally AWESOME - both sides! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 886.00 Del Vikings Confesion Of Love The Kings of Pittsbugh Doo Wop who at one time boasted the likes of Chuck Jackson within the line-up, do Northern Soul! Collecting British release Soul for the lifetime devotee sometimes hits the wall of "Got Nearly Everything" there is to have. So in recent times when the Northern Soul jocks reverted back to the transitional R&B/Group sound and started playing this beautifully smooth mover from it's 1962 ABC 10341 release. It gave the Brit-vinyl forager this much-rare 1962 HMV UK release to try and seek out. If your seeking, there is no finer example of the 45 than this near perfect 1962 English DEMO! View that alluring scan - listen to a skilled vocal group who's desire to keep with the times failed them as they ever achieved a hit for ABC and eventually split in 1965. Leaving the Northern Soul fan and the British collector with this fine legacy to chase. Sorry, this item has already been w Edited January 4, 2012 by JOE TORQUAY
JOE TORQUAY Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Debravon Lewis The Little Things (that Keep Me Loving You) Daly City Bob - I remember you sending me this Oakland indie as a new release. As so often happened when we went to order multiples from you. The record was out of stock @ "Music People" distributors. We never did get another copy from you. Since those days of Bay Area new releases dropping through my letter box, this 45 has grown in reputation on the Soulful Rare scene both here and in Europe. Especially France - so today for a copy I sold fully 30 year previously to come home is quite pleasing. The much-traveled Harvey Scales teams up with Walter Richardson crafting a sweet soul dance tune with a delicious vocal from Debravon Lewis - flip over for a vocal-group harmony stepper of the most-soulful kind! Today, after Bob's efforts for a re-order floundered this 45 is very, very tough to find. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 60.00 Detroit Spinners I'll Always Love You Totally immaculate 1965 UK press crediting for the first time "The Spinners" as The DETROIT SPINNERS. It is now well documented EMI's withdrawal of TMG 523 crediting The Spinners avoiding confusion with the already well established and hit making Liverpool folk group on Philips, thus giving birth to British christening that would stay with them on all subsequent UK releases. If this decision was to promote sales, they may wonder why they bothered, as this revamp failed miserably and today is considered one of the harderTMG 500 series to acquire, especially in this pristine condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 114.00 The World Of Soul June 24 1967 - Billboard Supplement June 24th 1967 Billboard felt it necessary to address the USA Soul Explosion with a 90 page supplement dedicated completely to USA soul industry. This is perhaps the finest insight to that era you could ever encounter. Full of pics, ads & interviews. including full page black & white record release ads to-die-for! from ATCO, MOTOWN, STAX, DATE just about everyone who was anyone involved in Soul in `1967 is covered. Remember this is no leaflet - it is a 90 page book with articles, release info, definitions of "the sound" and for those into "Soul Art" full page adverts that'll make your eyes pop-out" Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 56.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Douglas Banks Ain't That Just Like A Woman THE INCREDIBLY RARE - STOCK COPY! Just love the intro - the novel growling "rap" is smashed aside by a wall of brass, so what type of vocal could writer/producer Murray Wecht marry to that start? Enter Ray Pollard, Tony Middleton, Roy Hamilton? No it's a man with equally vibrant tonsils - Doug Banks purring, growling Lionesque vocal is a perfect match for the big brass, string filled production, sweetened by a clean shrill girl group! It's recordings like this that make me chuckle when you hear the likes of "Lewie Walsh" uninformed exaltation of mediocre vocals we endure during X-Factor. Thank heavens for Northern Soul and beings who delve deeper to discover exceptional music and voices! Doug you get a YES from me! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 277.00 Casualeers Dance Dance Dance C/w There's Something About This Girl Almost every word we have compiled in the praise of Al Wilson and The Wigan Casino, could be paste and copied over to this equally important Casino Anthem! So at the risk of becoming repetitive: The unleashing of the very guitar first pluck. The attendees of "The Casino" circa 1973/74 will be rocketed back in time - Evoking visions of shoulder to shoulder dancing, skillfully missing your neighboring dancer and still be able to pull of a spin or back drop! Then frantically time-clapping the instrumental break reaching NS orgasmic emotions as the killer-saxophone kicks in. Casuleers - was "THE CASINO" @ 3.03am To find a STOCK copy today in Mint - condition without any sign of vinyl fatigue is nothing short of rare. Do not overlook the killer B-side that slept snugly on the flip since those days - but today sounds perfect for Northern Soul exposure in 12011 Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 180.00 Bobby Moore And His Rhythm Aces Searching For My Love Ridiculously RARE 1966 British press on which the multi-talented Bobby Moore & his Rhythm Aces cover 60s dance soul, R&B Dance, Boo-ga-loo and soul ballads of the very Deepest kind. Click the taster soundfile to experience a man at the very top of his soul game. This British press album just never turns up for sale - this copy is just likeNEW! If your discerning about Soul & particular about condition - this offering is gonna delight you! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 54.00

boba Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Would of thought Harvey Scales would of gone past £1k..... i think there could have been a quantity scare from that magic touch person on ebay. or maybe the big hitters who wanted it for that much got copies already? or it could relate to the big hitters recovering from or still being on vacation.
