Modernsoulsucks Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 https://www.ebay.com/itm/GUITAR-RAY-45-Wreck-My-Life-SHAGG-northern-soul-HEAR-/370573402323 As I enter my sixtieth year I've realised Im getting less tolerant and this has totally wound me up although for Ebay it's nothing new. A very professional layout with picture and soundclip and to start an "expert" appraisal of this 45's place in rare soul history. Then I wade through the usual instructions as to how to have a pleasant shopping experience bidding on the seller's "great items" only to find at the end that the record is VG-. although as usual it plays better up to a VG and he has put it in a sleeve. It's shagged. ROD

Mal C Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 this guys generally a good seller, but hey, VG, SHAGG, WRECK MY LIFE says it all
Godzilla Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 He's included a soundclip too though. Ok for those who are not too fussy and at least potential bidders can make an informed choice.
NEV Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 SHAGGED or not ...am pretty sure it'll sell for me now
John Elias Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Rod, nothing to do with anything really but five maybe six years ago, I found a copy of this in a shop in Dudley! Always wondered how it ended up there... was it one of Them shops Pete, you know adult shops OOOOOAHHHH
Simsy Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 SHAGGED or not ...am pretty sure it'll sell for me now Just me or sound clip sounded okay? Is it yours Nev?
Modernsoulsucks Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 It's just the context of it I think. It's like Harrod's proudly announcing their new Poundland concession. ROD
Guest allnightandy Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 was it one of Them shops Pete, you know adult shops OOOOOAHHHH Well it is on "Shag Records " Sounds like the guest book from a brothel !
Nige Brown Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Rod, nothing to do with anything really but five maybe six years ago, I found a copy of this in a shop in Dudley! Always wondered how it ended up there... Perhaps Dave Rimmer need to buy a tin of beans
Guest allnightandy Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Just me or sound clip sounded okay? Is it yours Nev? Sound clip is quite good as long as it's from his record would be fine for DJing
Ernie Andrews Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Sounds reasonably ok to me! If it goes for a round $250 it would be ok What do you expect for a 40 year old record
boba Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I agree that the record grade is buried in his auctions and hard to find. That seller is a nice guy though.
Chalky Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I agree to he could have given the condition etc at the beginning. The scan gives a totally false impression. But having said that it doesn't sound too bad for vg-/vg, I've heard far worse vg+ and ex condition records. It should sell easily me thinks.
Dylan Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I can't play the clip (old laptop i'm badly in need of a new one) but the scan for the record looks very acceotable for the grade.
Kris Holmes Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 good seller, grade seems right if you listen to the clip, not out of line at all, people have definitely bought worse sounding 45s, i don't see the issue, it'll probably hit $500, condition isn't there for me to be interested but there are plenty of others out there who aren't so picky.
Guest JIM BARRY Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 his wording of "one of the best soul records ever made" is accurate though.....love it.
Modernsoulsucks Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Yes I think if VG- had appeared earlier in the ad that would have gone some way to assuage my, and I admit, totally OTT response to this ad. It's the big build-up to VG- that gets my back up. And Ernie I have loads of 45s over 40 years old, some of which I've owned for nearly 40 years. They are not in this condition so I expect better and I suspect from your comment you do too. ROD
Guest Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) is it not just sales? you don't advertise the worst aspect of the sale at the beginning. at least he is honest and its there in black and white. Edited January 5, 2012 by anorthernsoul

Guest Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 he wouldn't use the word 'shagg' more of a '"like making love to a beautiful woman" :)Swiss Toni 1
Kris Holmes Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 heres one that's excellent https://www.raresoulm...a-wreck-my-life in all honesty there's not a heck of a lot in it aurally between the soundclip on this E copy vs the ebay VG-........

Sleeps45 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Ive bought records from him and he's a pretty honest grader..killer Nola 45
Liljimmycrank Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Does he put the grade in a different place for M-, or Ex records? Don't see the problem myself, all the facts are there for the bidder to see/hear

ROD Neither did I at first, one of those tracks you think there is something familiar about it. Writing credits of Chester Burnett made the penny drop.....
Diggin' Dave Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) Well the listing looks pretty decent to me, it does have quite abit of text but I think it's just because the guy wants to give complete information about the records. The text is also nicely spread out and layed out. Which brings me to one of my pet peeves: guys whose listing is just a solid block of text, more often all caps than not, and then after you win the auction they charge you like £30 for shipping, and then get insulted for not reading everything carefully.* * before anyone asks I do see the irony in complaining about latge chunks of text by typing a block of text but hey...
