Markw Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 This was done for a programme called, if I recall, 'Something Else' which was aired around 1980 I think. The series was one of those 'we want TV for the yoof made by the yoof' type of things which started to get popular back then. Something Else was presented each week by kids from different towns across the UK. This one was done by some folk from Skelmersdale. As I recall, it was introduced by one of the lads saying something like "they wouldn't let us film at Wigan Casino of a night time but we wanted to show you what Northern Soul is all about anyway" - cut to footage of buses and coaches and a soundtrack of Isaac Hayes 'Disco Connection'. 1

Derek Pearson Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) It's just that I'm sure there is more footage from the one posted above with this guy on it!? I'm sure he features on footage not used on the above video. Bloody Hell, Mr Pearson just told me about this video, thanks for the kind words guys Hey up Mick - seeing as you were featured in this programme what was the background to it and can you confirm more details, people etc etc.... Memory is such a weird thing - as soon as I watched the above clip of Vernon spinning I knew I'd completely forgotten all about it but immediately remembered I'd seen it many times before. Then I wondered why there weren't snippets of it all over YouTube, of course I never considered that the BBC would routinely clear off sections of videos they owned under copyright laws. And yes Barry you're right - the more I thought about it - there is a section where Big Mick is sat down saying summat like "I'm from Bradford and we come here just for the music, just for the music, it's fantastic"........ derek x also it looks like there are 2 separate threads going on at the moment that are very similar and overlap many times: Check this thread out for more questions and answers. Mark R Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 The first part of that footage is well used and was featured in colour on (I think) the Old Grey Whistle Test feature using Tony's Blackburn (the one with Mick Hucknall on it?). The latter half-ish is new to me. The footage you mention with Mick etc talking to the camera was new to me when I saw it a couple of years ago on that embarassing Paul O'Grady show!! Cheers, Mark R
