Guest giant Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 current value please Blue Sharks--- i know its ITALIAN ONLY but the price.
Mrtag Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Hi Bahr, Anything between £400 And £600 depending on condition! Atb John.
Mrtag Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I'd have a spare copy if it's only £150 Paid double that for a minter a lot of years ago and got that cheap!!
soulfulmick Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Paid less than £150 for mine, been a few on the bay recently and all gone for less than £200 so I think Daves valuation is probably about right.

What kind of condition have they Been in?? I Did see a tidy copy go through the bay a few months back at about $400 and thought that was cheap it sounds like they have turned up in numbers or the demand has dropped right off, probabley the latter as I haven't had mine in my play boxes for a long time!!

Popular Post Pete S Posted December 23, 2011 Popular Post Posted December 23, 2011 This record sounds like one of those weedy cover versions you used to get on the 49p Top Of The Pops LP's they used to sell in Woolworths. 5
Mrtag Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 This record sounds like one of those weedy cover versions you used to get on the 49p Top Of The Pops LP's they used to sell in Woolworths. Yer Probabley right Pete Apparently it was made as an Italian jukebox record so the story goes. Some dj from a liverpool radio station gave it to Sam. I remember him playing it at the Casino.
Dobber Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 ive had 2 mint copys of this in 12 months, its not a rare record even though its italian only release,£200 tops for it!
Mrtag Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 ive had 2 mint copys of this in 12 months, its not a rare record even though its italian only release,£200 tops for it! Just been talking to Pete on the phone about this!! and how it stayed hard to find for years with Sam appearing to have the only copy and then the last 8 to 10 years they have started turning up!! Oh Well !! "The crazy world of Northern Soul" as they say!!
Kjw Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I was wondering about this record as there were not many copies around for years and then recently quite a few have come up for sale - are they all original copies It's not that long ago since the (very authentic looking) copies of King Tutt emerged from Italy
Guest ritchie Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) Soul Sam tune St Ives 77..played out there long before station rd heard it.... Edited December 23, 2011 by ritchie
Steve Foran Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Yep I was going to both venues then. My money on St Ives. 1
bri pinch Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 probably one of those eurpean things, thats been de-rarified by ebay as we now all have easy acess to the euro market
Wiggyflat Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) Think I have Romey Carr's version somewhere.....from memory I always preferred the b side Stand Up And Fight Edited December 23, 2011 by wiggyflat
Guest Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I read some where that the record was ment to have been a give away at a supermarket sure ill get some smart remarks - ill try and find the info if anyones interested - seemed to be very hard 45 to get once when Sam played it at St Ives - as alot of 45s time changes things and more have appeared paid 350 for mine but you should find it less then 200
boba Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I was wondering about this record as there were not many copies around for years and then recently quite a few have come up for sale - are they all original copies It's not that long ago since the (very authentic looking) copies of King Tutt emerged from Italy I think it's more likely a case of the global market making some things available that weren't before, just like some US records were thought to be rare by UK collectors and aren't anymore. I doubt it was bootlegged as they show up in different conditions. People in Italy probably know to look out for it now. Also, given that it's like a straight pop record and doesn't look indie, it probably was produced and distributed in some amount (for whatever reason, it would be interesting to hear the story behind it).

I think I also read that it was on one of those cheapo Avenue 7"ers with 6 cover versions on.
Guest giant Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Lots of interesting comments ' its never been booted 'so if they have turned up in numbers it really makes no difference to me as i pick it up for $25 dollars ' real bargain i would say.
bri pinch Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 guess the current value is only 15 quid then

TBH I always prefered Blue Sharks version, can see where your coming from though - like a lot of tunes my oppinion maybe clouded by nostalgia

John Parker Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 (edited) Yeah, I read that as well. I think I also read that it was on one of those cheapo Avenue 7"ers with 6 cover versions on. Pretty sure it was a supermarket giveaway If you look at the cover it says...UPIM..or more precisely Ommagio Della Upim......S'ppose loosely translated as Tribute to Upim ....An Italian Chain store Edited December 27, 2011 by john parker

Not sure where I read it but there's a good chance it was on here.

Not sure where I read it but there's a good chance it was on here. You probably mean one of the many Mike Morton LP There was a rumour about 2 years ago that this LP version by Mike Morton was the exact same recording as Blue Sharks. "These Things" is indeed the same, however "Banner Man" (The Blue Sharks flip side) is different. I did get both the LP's at the time, one with "These Things", and a second LP with "Heaven Must Have Sent You" (coincidentally, this second LP also had "Banner Man" on it). Also the tracks were faded together with Fake appluase between tracks (Like O'Jays MFP LP) Cheers Mick NB meant to update this but somehow forgot - Just to clarify "These Things" are the same recordings but "Banner Man" is different. Chris L Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) current value please Blue Sharks--- i know its ITALIAN ONLY but the price. Old posting I know, I've been on the lookout for a copy, most I've seen are mint to EX+ and from £180 to £350.00. I do like it very much I've seen a photo of the group sort of white guys looking like Prince. Edited May 9, 2012 by Chris L

I understand Sam bought his copy back from an italian dealer to play at the last Cleethorpes Winter Garden all dayer.

And I agreed it probably is, but it has to be pointed out that it actually IS a better version! That's fighting talk Steve I may well have been influenced by the fact that it has been championed by Sam for years - maybe not. I just like it and the italian influence adds a little something. I have vague memories of Nev Wherry spinning this too - along side the likes of Arin Demain, although I might just be making that up. Any views?
Chris L Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 This copy has recently appeared on Ebay, with a reserve of around £400.00. Didn't sell, 2nd time around only received 1 bid of £50.00. VG+

In March 2007, at a weekender in Asturias in Spain, he played it. My ears at that point weren't yet receptive to Modern Soul, so amongst all that Lil Major Williams, Ike Strong, Ellipsis, King Tutt, Tribute To Betty Wright stuff, it kind of made my night and of course transported me back to the main room at St.Ives in 1977. He followed it with Frank Beverly 'Because Of My Heart'. I think it's a great version, and I'm no fan of European pop-soul tunes.

The last Cleethorpes all dayer was March 2007 if I recall - so he may well have played it in Spain too.
macca Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Oh', I thought the last Cleethorpes event was later than that. Apologies Pete,.
Peter99 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Oh', I thought the last Cleethorpes event was later than that. Apologies Pete,. No need for apologies my friend. It's a story that I would like to be true - because it adds more interest to the record/thread. It might have even been Sam who told me - but I don;'t remember! 1
macca Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 The BS version is credited to Fogerty (John?) rather than Fuqua, Bristol & May. Well dodgy!
Chris L Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I checked on Popsike and it gave about 10 copies as having being sold on Ebay. They went from £400.00 at the peak now running at about £150.00. I think there's another site like Popsike, not sure what it's called, something like Vinylmaniacs or somesuchsimilar. Anywhere else you look for records that sold ?
