Premium Stuff Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) Hi all I was just searching for info on a record using Google search. Quite an obscure one, so there were not many search results returned. I recently picked up a copy on eBay and I was surprised to see one Google result with "eBay feedback for ..." and my user name thrown up. I clicked on the link and I could see all of my recent eBay purchases with dates, item details, price paid etc. I tried some other possible user names and could see the same for other people. F*ck me How can this be allowed. eBay does not even let you see who won an auction these days - but then you can just Google on a record, or search on a user name in eBay and see exactly what the person has bought and paid. Is this common knowledge and have I been just missing this? Cheers Richard Edited December 22, 2011 by Premium Stuff
boba Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I don't think they make any explicit promise of anonyminity and what they show and don't show has constantly changed. They also have other policies that are inconsistent (for example, DSRs are supposed to be anonymous but at the same time they gave sellers a user-by-user report of DSR scores).

Thanks for the info Bob DSR = Detailed Seller Rating for eBay from a quick Google Fine - but showing the world every item you or I have purchased recently and how much we paid for it is out of order in my book. If any other place you bought stuff from posted up your recent shopping lists and bills online what would we all think? Will I stop using eBay - no That's why they can get away with such disgusting sh*te Cheers Richard Edited December 23, 2011 by Premium Stuff
Diggin' Dave Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Richard, you can consider turning your account into a private account. When you do that it's impossible for others to see your eBay feedbacks and items bought. Only thing other users can see is your feedback total. I don't remember exactly how to turn the account into a private account but I think it's pretty easy, so I'll check it out for you.

Trev Thomas Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 even if you turn your account into a private one, people can still see what you have bought and how much you have paid, by going into "advanced search" and typing your user name into "items by bidder"

Dave Pinch Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 stops people lying when they say they got it for nothing. ive rumbled a few people over the years..one guy was very cocky soon sorted him out he was a white as a ghost does help not to let people know what you buy under tho
Guest allnightandy Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I haven't bought a record off Ebay since they stopped showing you who you were bidding against which must be a few years ago now the thing is i knew the screen names of some dealers so i had an idea how much they would bid for something , still leaving them a profit now that's not there neither am i !
boba Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 the thing is i knew the screen names of some dealers so i had an idea how much they would bid for something , still leaving them a profit this still happens a lot. I even get some stuff cheap to resell. What's annoying is when dealers buy stuff for not cheap so they can resell it even more. I keep getting outbid on certain items by certain dealers where I'm bidding what seems like a fair price (and I'm always the second bidder). What's weirder is people who constantly search other people's IDs to see what they bid on. I do this, mainly to see if there was anything good I missed. It's sort of creepy to know that other people do it to me though, as I've had multiple random people ask me about records I won.
