Northern Soul On The Funfair

Does anybody have memories of Northern Soul being played on the fair? I remember Silcocks playing it regularly on the Waltzer and I know that it was very popular at Nottingham Goose Fair in the 80's.

I have a vintage Speedway fairground ride and play a bit of Northern Soul at the vintage rallies which goes down well (and it may be me being biased) but it sounds fantastic.

Here's a bit of video I managed to get at the Cheshire Steam Fair this year.

I'll be out and about in the NW next year if anybody fancies a ride.

i remember Guy Darrell , Dobie Gray, Bobby Paris and more getting frequent plays when i were a youngster at our mid lent fair. good stuff

"knock on wood" and "seven days too long " , "I'm gonna run away from you" etc

There was never any "girlie hand rails" though coz it was just soooo uncool to sit down

They always had the handrails. Used to stand up on the platform handrails. Suprising how many people still want to stand up, jump on/off, walk the platforms. If you want to relive the old days I'll be at Heskin Hall Vintage rally nr Chorley double bank holiday in June playing some top tunes. Even got the old disco decks hanging from the ceiling. :-) Sreamif you wanna go faster!

Heskin Hall ! That name rings a bell Back in the 1990's i was national building foreman for Stormseal windows of Bury And Stormseal owned Heskin Hall It was our Conference / training center it had something like 16 bedrooms fully kitted out with antique four poster beds and furniture it had a bar and i think two restaurants , small golf course and an indoor heated pool it was always fully staffed and we used to go up just for free steaks from the chef Gary. happy days !

Tighten Vol 2 was played on a loop at our local fair in 1969. But I knew the all the tracks anyway cos I had a cool skinhead older sister.

Went to Carter's Steam Fair recently and found these on the fairground rides....Great 1950's fair including Wall Of Death and Vintage machines and rides.

Everybody at work thinks I've gone mad! Giggling hysterically.... "Dan the Bummer" ... got to be one of the all time great schoolboy names for someone.... that is just so funny..... i do remember who you mean though. :lol:
