Jimmie Bo Horn

I Can't Speak

Does this record require any comments from me, not really does it?

But I can't help myself, as I swoon whilst Jimmie takes an easy stroll through Steve Alaimo & Brad Shapiro's production, i must applaud the simple-is-genius approach.

Simply saturated with emotion, as the lone-vocal has almost only a piano for company. But in true Miami style and Clarence Reid & Willie Clarke tradition, brass and subtle-girls enter the studio to lift this soul-masterpiece even higher into the upper reaches of Northern Soul distinction.

Vinyl does have some light surface marks listen to soundfile lifted directly off this enticingly rare disc, only the merest occasional light inaudible pop.

Emanuel Laskey

(i've Got To) Run For My Life C/w You Better Be Sure

Most all THELMA DEMO have promo graffiti wrote on the labels - so to find one of the "Rare Whites" in flawless condition is very pleasing indeed.

Strong Detroit Northern Soul and perhaps Emanuel Laskey's least known dancer. Click the sound-file to be refreshed on just how darn good and uninfluenced by the rest of the Motor City's success this raw creation is.

Proper, gritty street-level Northern Sol isn't it? So how cool is it to have a proper Deep Soul ballad on the flip. Two stonkin' example of real-soul from Detroit by one of it's best-loved sons...

Appreciations

It's Better To Cry C/w Gimme Back My Soul

It has been an age since we have listed this New York meets Detroit trophy!

David Blake & Frankie Neives team up with Valise label partner Phil Medley and present this vocal group with a fluid brass production to weave some beautiful harmony vocals into.

The music quality screams PRICELESS...our sales data reveals only 1 copy sold in the last 12 years... made me pause for thought, and what a relief to find I still have a copy in my collection. Otherwise no way would this 45 be for sale

Utterly BRILLIANT!

Hello Blues

Hey check this out - incredibly rare street-level Los Angeles R&B Northern Soul thumper, awaits the Northern Soul jock looking for a head-turner to spin.

Same song as LaCharles McCoy - AMC recorded but this is much, much rarer!

The 60s King Of L.A. R&B, Fats Washington writes both sides and guides this white guy endowed with a huge "black" vocal through 2+ minutes of relentless anger-driven 60s dance!

It's fantastic stuff, it's rare and it still retains what surely must be one of the ultimate Northern Soul picture sleeves to own.

Top side Jesse "Your Not Loving A Beginner" Fisher excels in Dunn Pearson's project - not a "disco" cliche anywhere, this a pure uninfluenced rare-souldful dance.

Flip it for an Ohio Reflective Soul experience of the Deepest kind..

Some light surface marks, DOLL written on the label - see scan listen to the double soundfile lifted directly off this highly-elusive disc. We know the quality will over-ride those minor flaws - ownership is essential for the real soulie seeking unobtainable excellence!

Santa Claus Please Listen To Me

The ultimate Northern Soul Christmas record! This is the rarely witnessedORIGINAL press in just immaculate condition; 2 x A on label suggests this was used as a promo in a mail-out.

No wonder this 45 was "bootlegged" immediately it was discovered in the70s - quickly shipped to the Wigan Casino DJs. It was not until sometime later the original vinyl 45 revealed itself. A trick often used by the West Coast suppliers to the scene.

Listen and be prepared to hear solid proper-real-deal Northern Soul that would have Santa, Rudolph and those little elves raiding Grannie's "talcum powder" gift...

The Day My Heart Stood Still C/w Gotta Wipe Away The Teardrops

During the 60s Los Angeles Motown office turned out some wonderful "Jobette" tunes, many of which Motown just never used. This 45 offers TWOexamples of their work - and what killers they are too.

Top side is a Wigan Casino anthem - that in recent times seems a faded memory - so click that soundfile to feel that joy of the clasic style Northrn Soul that had the place jumping. Wriiten by Willie Hutch and Hal Davis it draws from Detroit almost on every note.

The Flip is something completely different, and has been receiving deserved spins from a few notable NS Jocks, Written by Kent Harris & Hal Davis it delivers a fusion of Popcorn/Northern Soul and The Big City sound.

Two fabulous tunes, that Motown passed over but those vigilant Northern Soul fans just lapped up.

Condition of the vinyl is blindfingly perfect - A-side label carries PROMOgraffiti - 1967 - X X and the promoters name VERSAILLOS - we've never seen a promo so this is most likely the nearest thing.

Martha And The Vandellas

Martha And The Vandellas

a truly immaculate 1965 UK Soul - Art!

If the fact that this EP is one of the real tough one to acquire in the UK Tamla Motown EP series - doesn't ignite your desire for ownership, we think the 3 ecstatic grins of three ladies at the top of their game will be irresistible. Or maybe the fact that the label sports a "Factory Sample NOT FOR SALE" promo sticker presses your buttons...

All in all this EP has everything going for it. A too good to miss combination of Art, Condition, rarity and promo status sticker and of course the killer factor of all 4 tracks are Motown / Northern Soul classics.

I'll Forgive And Forget C/w I Tried

Hey how long is it since this stomping Cleethorpes Pier monster was spun at an oldies night? Today is the first time I've heard it in memory - and hey it sounds even better than in did back in 1976!

Jerry Fuller takes Donnie "Mission Bell" Brooks composition and harnesses it to a Run-away-truck production adding a piercing girl-group inside the cab. It rumbles from one peak to another - this is Stompin-Northern-Soul at it's best and it has been missing from oldies sets for far too long!

This original 1967 PROMO is a beauty - two X's on the other side - which to my amazement is also a worthy example of L.A. Northern Soul; a moody Jerry Fuller Big City stroller with those lively-gals again in close-attendance!

Baby Don't You Weep C/w Tell Me

Well if you were buying a slab of Detroit genius for your loved-one this Xmas. You wouldn't want a water-damaged or stained label would you? I say that because this 45 is so very hard to find with perfect vinyl & labels!

This Fred Bridges & Richard Knight creation serves Motor City Northern Soul at it's best. For those of you who paid homage to the "Brothers Of Soul" @ Coventry recently quite rightly acclaimed the creators of this disc as the Holland-Dozier-Holland of the rare-soul scene - click the sound-file immerse yourself in the exceptional writing and producing of the trio, and Edward's silky vocal.

NOTE this copy is not only "perfect" it is also the rarely seen label variation with the "Mike Terry" crediting omitted.

Exus Trek C/w If It's All The Same To You

Find a better example of this Top-Drawer Northern Soul anthem if you can. Absolutely never encountered a Northern Soul hand until it met me.

This is the pinnacle of Northern Soul classic collecting, when you have a rendezvous with white demo perfection! Two flawless labels and vinyl with a minuscule sleeve brush blemish...breathtakingly perfect!

Walking Up A One Way Street C/w Thank You John

A flip-side that rose to become a timeless MOD Anthem for England's all-nite clubs. This is the rarely seen 3 pronge center 1966 British original.

To be in MINT - condition is totally astonishing.

Yes just as the day it was made - condition freaks this 45, still even retains tiny vinyl flake residue from the factory 3 pronge die-cut hanging around on the label.

Not unplayed because we lifted the soundfile directly from it - but surely the finest copy we could possibly ever offer.
