OOOPS, thought Room 101 was that TV programme for important people, yes I was praising SS

Yep room 101 was program for celebs in which they placed there placed the stuff they didn't like or hated. Sorry read your post wrong, thought you were banishing Sam to room 101 :P

Room 101 from the novel 1984 by George Orwell

from Wikipedia

Room 101 is a torture chamber in which a prisoner is subjected to his own worst nightmare. Such is the omniscience of the state in the totalitarian society of 1984 that even a citizen's nightmares are known to the authorities. The nightmare " and therefore the threatened punishment " of the protagonist Winston Smith is to have his face gnawed by rats. Smith saves himself by begging the authorities to let his girlfriend, Julia (he is married but has not seen his wife in years), have her face gnawed out by the ferocious rodents. The torture " and what Winston does to escape it " utterly crushes the feelings between Smith and Julia, destroying their youthful idealism, their dreams for the future, and their feelings for each other. It should be noted that the book never actually suggests Julia is subjected to the rat torture (though she could have been threatened with her worst nightmare), and the original intent of threatening Winston with the rats probably wasn't to actually go through with the act, but to force him into betraying the only person he loved and therefore break his spirit.

Room 101 is supposedly named after a conference room at BBC Broadcasting House where Orwell used to sit through tedious meetings. Broadcasting House certainly had a Room 101 - its door was at the far end of a long corridor on the east side of the building - and it's possible that Orwell's wartime work at the BBC was part of the inspiration for 1984's 'Ministry of Truth'.

Funnily enough there is a Room 101 at the Orwell. Soul Sam is threatened with incarcaration in there if he ever goes back to his "Blue Sharks/Burning Bush" dark days. The quality of tunes he plays nowadays guarantees his liberty.

I think you'll find Ginger is to blame for "Burning Bush" , but Sam did stoop lower with that "Casino Strut" c/u. The flip of some cheesy Italian disco 12" that he hammered during his guest spots at the Casino in 78/79.

For me all that country pop influenced sixties R&B that seems so popular these days goes into room 101. If you want good raw R&B it has to be from the fifties.

As Guy has just been mentioned, then some of what he played at that do in Huddersfield a couple of months back should be banished...Some awful versions of some great tunes. It was enough to make my ears bleed, and yes I did mention it to him at the time!

Oh and Johnny Maestro, I hope to god that doesn't get played any more

And that probably also explains the numerous and expensive bills for porn websites you've been receiving since he left.

And although Mr Darge is responsible for some of my favourite tunes, he is also responsible for Whirlpool - I can't remember the artist - which would get my 101 vote.

If it's about three people caught in one, and one of them being a fool etc etc, then yes, sadly

Although this thread does show very succinctly that there is no accounting for taste! I've found myself thinking 'you can't hate that' when someone puts up one tune or another, but also thinking 'totally' when along come something else.

I think Dave means the Marty Thompson one, which may have been Ion not Keb, truly awful record, although not as bad as the one that gets my vote - Raven Mads _ Where Is Love (I think), possibly the worst record I have heard!!

Cheers

Jock

PS Just shows how different tastes are, Bobby Addams has always been one of my all time faves, maybe of its time a little, anyone got a sound clip I could trip down memory lane too?

Seems to be in two groups, one lot allegedly dire and the other lot overplayed.

Sam was most definitely playing Burning bush to death in the late 70's can't comment on Raymondo as i can't recall seeing him DJ in his pomp

Why would you throw Sam, he plays the most amazing records, 60's 70' 80' 90's right up todate, most of you guys out couldn't hold your own against him whatever era spot he did. I think you would be amazed what you Sam could dig out of his boxes to blow most of you away. Yes I know he champions current tunes, but some of you want to get around to some of the smaller 60's venues he DJ's at, you would be supprised. He has been up there with the best for the last 40yrs not many can say that.

Not possible to choose a single record so I would throw in SOUL SAM :sleep3:
Well if ya throwing in Sam im going in with him & Roger Williams is coming in with us both (weather he wants to or not).

Sure we'd be fighting like cats & dogs some of the time but when we all got out we'd have some great stories to tell & im sure we could all learn a bit off each other.

Might take Pete S with us too (with his ska collection). Now that would be fun laugh.gif
