the main bootlegs that still blow me away on ebay is those belgian bootlegs that have labels that look real and that the seller starts at $50 each, as if they were real. who makes these and how do they make them? are they one-offs or are a bunch pressed?

How about using a picture of an original in a listing for a more recent release so to speak? :g:

He's not using a picture of an original - THAT is the bootleg - one of around 200 mainly R&B records pressed up 18 months ago by someone in the UK, they also include very good lookalikes of Charles Sheffield and Shirley Lawson but are always sold as reissues. Phil (Enthucol) specialises 99% of the time in reggae and ska, mainly reissues.

Ref the seller of the Paul Anka 45:

In the mid to late 1970s, I used to buy lots of bootleg singles from this guy. It started with 'Eddie Foster' - 'Do I love you' on IN Records.

In a nutshell, if a tune was big at Wigan and bootlegged - he was my local source for a copy.

Having said that, I did somehow manage to buy three original copies of Epitome of Sound for a couple of quid each, gave two away to ex girlfriends...

Was out on Friday night @SHS and had the pleasure of Mark Forests collection to hear with a dance to Lester Frekin Tipton included. Went on to another club only to listen to CARVERS of My Proposal, a boot of The Parliament's Cable should have gone home sooner but! then the delight of seeing Gwen Owens on a WLP being played and to then realise how Two Plus Two fits in to the equation.

For me the playing of boots in a club undermines the fun of going out to hear these rare records, plenty of 20-40 even 60 £ records unknown that could be played in a clever way rather than a £40 carver to boost the ego of the DJ, quiet sad I thought but each to his own. Pick my venues a bit more selectively in future.
