Mick Sway Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) Does anyone know the crack with this funky cross over tune? A few copies appear to have gone for big money on Ebay (ref Popsike). I know that a few years ago it was relatively cheap in boxes around nighters. Info appreciated. Thanks Mick Edited November 28, 2011 by Mick Sway
Corbett80 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) Been played for a while in rare rooms by a number of people - Butch now playing it hence price hike, although the Manships copy didn't achieve the price I think some expected. Looks like its a £250 odd 45 record dealer wise at the moment. One of the best crossover 45s I've yet heard imho. Edited November 28, 2011 by corbett80
Dave Thorley Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Used to get played at TOTW, but was always a £15-£25 record, only seens that in the last year or so it's gone silly.

Was also a spin for Rod at Thorne if I remember - in fact picked mine up off a Voices list after hearing it there for 20 quid. Me and our youth fiddled with it at the Wilton on a number of occasions late 90s/ early noughties - always seemed to clear the floor. It's always been an odd record to me - one day I'd love it, the next I'd think, 'nah, stop messing around with this odd-ball obscure tripe Scotty'. It appears I was not too clever when I let a spare go for 75quid back in March - to be honest, I thought he was daft paying that much. Hey ho, looks like I was the numb-nuts
Jnixon Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Used to get played at TOTW, but was always a £15-£25 record, only seens that in the last year or so it's gone silly. sold a few at c £150- £200 3 maybe 4 years ago. didn't ask for that price got offered it. seemed to the going rate then so i rode with it. was always going around £50-£75 in hip hop circles due its unused 'Wu Tang' strings. Always thought it sounded much classier than a £20 tune.
Mick Sway Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) I bought a copy from Goldmine about seven years ago for £15, more on the grounds that it looked obscure rather than a having a great liking for the tune. The strange feature being the fact that the bands name appears to be stamped on with a rubber stamp. Can't say that I'm particularly enamoured with tune as its a funky little number and probably a tricky dancer to boot. I have put it on several CD's for folks over the intervening years, the track passing off without comment. One was posted on Ebay last week with a asking price of £450, needless to say it didn't have any takers. Does anyone know if there's anything else on this label ? Some images at : https://www.popsike.c...0586323238.html Thanks for the info all. Mick PS how can I embed a Youtube web link into a post on the source? Used to get played at TOTW, but was always a £15-£25 record, only seens that in the last year or so it's gone silly. Edited November 28, 2011 by Mick Sway
Ted Massey Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) ones just gone through Ebay at £400 statring price didnt sell thou Edited November 28, 2011 by Ted Massey
Corbett80 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Chancer wanting top whack. As for the quality of the record anything that opens with the lines 'This man loves you / this man tries / but how can he hide the tears in his eyes' is tip top imho. Wish there were far more records as good as this in the same vein. Pure soul.
pikeys dog Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 The Jazzy guitar makes it sound like a 1970s Schools Television theme tune... which can only be a good thing. 1
