Russ Russ I wasn't trying to ridicule you or rare music. Everybody strives to find rare music, the very ethos of the NS scene. BUT it has to be good. I dont like how people on here ridicule followers of oldies and therefore I have no intention of ridiculing rare music. You are right and I'm not wrong its what makes the music so bloody marvellous. Its certainly not worth anybody getting p..sed off about. KTF Mark Edited November 24, 2011 by Marky Tee Link to comment Social source share

Popular Post Chalky
I Dj'ed at one of the Blackpool Weekenders, mainly in the rare room but I kicked the night off in main room on the Sunday night, Billy Hambric was on the decks and some tw*t came up and said, "play some Northern, something we know from Wigan" I said "where do you think this was played" and we had a row where I threatened to knock him off the stage if he didn't f*ck off. Sean Chapman escorted him away These weekends aren't meant for the every week soulie who is a bit more serious about his or her music, it is mainly a social gathering with Northern Soul music that most are familiar with. Let them get on with it and just do your own thing. 6 Link to comment Social source share

KevH
It's a 2 and half minute clip, how can the weekend be judged on that? Soulman
Northern Soul is about enjoyment, entertainment and a social gathering. Who is in any authority to decide how we behave, react or dance. If enjoyment is the holding of hands after a great weekend then so be it. For God's sake don't be so anally retentive. What's wrong with having a good time. Would you rather the weekend finish in a big kick off with fisticuffs, now how would that come across to those that don't know the scene... a throwback to the 60's mod vs greaser days. Things have progressed. Grow up and stop being "Soul Police". Nobody owns the scene or dictates what happens. 3 Link to comment Social source share

Guest BAKUNIN
The scene... if thats what its still called...... is gradually losing its identity.......its soul if you like. just have to accept it ......? I for one do not identify the hokey cokey or drinking on the dance floor with creating a soul club atmosphere Those places are now thing of the past I am sorry to say. Seems its drink first music second...... Suppose at the end of the day its all about what you want out of the evening. Is it really all about just having a laugh at a soul do or maybe creating and feeling you are, ,with like minded people, part of something special and dare I say it ..soulful I could go down the pub if I just wanted a laugh but there was " something more" us old farts are looking for which maybe is just not there anymore. Perhaps I have reached the end of Nostalgia Road. Off now to put some sounds on...........and drift Each to his own and horse for courses and all that. Popular Post Len
Right, I've been thinking about this all evening, is it worth posting? (Again)....etc etc...Probably not but here goes - At least it will be off my chest! As far as I'm concerned, the Soul Scene is BROKEN - F*CKIN BROKEN! 'You' are to blame - Who 'You' is? - I do not know... ..."We've booked our dates 5 years in advance so your clashing with us"....."No, your clashing with us"....F*CK OFF!!! - I'm sick of it, everyone's talking about too many events but no one is doing a damn thing about it as they are NOT thinking (To quote Tes) about the bigger picture!...Too many weekenders will slowly kill the nighter scene...it's too late now, the scene 'in general' will remain localised and no more will it ever be 'cutting edge... It will never be the same as I remember it -The 'unwritten rules' (If you have to ask, you don't get it)....Etiquette and MOST of all respect, that's all mostly gone now. I was at 'An event' a little while back and a really 'Well known character of the soul scene' had returned after about 10 years 'absence' - He said to me and I quote - "Lenny, there's nothing left now mate" - there was sadness in his eyes (No joke) I 'mourned' the Soul Scene about 5 - 10 years ago and have excepted all of the above. There is more to life so please don't get me wrong, I enjoy what I can get from the Soul Scene, which includes some of life's most interesting, witty and lovely people one could ever imagine to meet - So make the most of where you do go, as I intend to! Is this post slightly off topic? - Sorry, I now really am passed caring (Believe it or not!) all those in the clip look as though they were having a great time (Nothing wrong in that)...Sometimes 'Seriousness' is mistaken for not having fun. That's completely wrong - Seriousness (to me at least) means Passion! Happy Christmas! All the best, Len. P.s - Please do not comment on the above post as I can't be bothered with an argument, it's just the way I feel - Feel free to tick 'Like' Or 'Unlike' - Thankyou... P.p.s - Someone mentioned my 'Disappearing up it's own *rse' thread on an earlier post - read it again, it was meant - Is this people's perception of the 'Upfront scene, not 'literally'... 4 Link to comment Social source share

But there is little bonding these days at all cos its been Phooked up by the wannabe Djs/promoters who were jealous of others trying to keep it going at the time and therefore their were too many nights. If I had gone to this event it probably would have been just to see old friends and reminisce otherwise I had been sitting watching Football with a nice Steak & kidney pie and chips from the Bloomfield Chipshop. If all the playlists had been put up for the weekend maybe a better judgement could have been made about some of the accusations. What Im pissed off about is the Clip is on Facebook and some of the people taking the piss in their posts are the exact ones who used to complain a few years ago of "Not enough Oldies" at local soul nights. Is it me or is their a hint of hypocrisy in there. I guess you include Mr Roberts in your promoters criticism. The same Mr Roberts who also promotes Kings Hall, the same nighter you include in your footer. So I wonder why you include this reference to attract his punters into your venue? If your music/event doesnt wish to associate itself with these embarrassments why drive in its slipstream? Change wouldnt have these shenanigans in there, but then again doesnt get 1,000 punters in either, free or not. Please note I havent criticised your venue's music choice cuz I happen to like it as well, and long may it reign.
