Wiggyflat Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 This took the roof off at the Dingwalls reunion on Sunday especially when Gregory got up to sing it.........probably a bit too jazzy for the soul scene unless there was an edit.I know i would prefer it to remixes of double barrel. What do you think.
Ian Dewhirst Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Played it on the show yesterday (the Opolopo remix of course) right after the Daz I Q remix of "The Bottle". Works like a dream. Great record! Ian D
Wiggyflat Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 It was an impromptu PA by him....priceless when everyone sang back to him aint no need for sunlight....aint no need for moonlight etc. Will check the remix.Amazing record IMHO.
Ian Dewhirst Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Opolopo Remix here Kev. This is the one! https://rhythmandgroove.blogspot.com/2011/02/gregory-porter-1960-what-opolopo-kick.html Ian D
Guest Ste Brazil Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Top track. A mate of mine put me on to this a few months back, absolutely love it, all we need now is a 7" edit-please! Ste.

Wiggyflat Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Edited and on a seven I think this would get plays out.I prefer the original take Ian.Think I will pester his management.
Guest Ste Brazil Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 It's from a jazz LP, I prefer the original cut to be honest.
Guest lifeandsoul Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 i think the point is that the orig is 'better' (as a piece) but the opolopo mix is best for playing out because of the extra kick and bass
jocko Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 There is a better track on the CD! I see another f***ing Mario Bondi coming and this being played (on boot 7" obviously) in Village Halls at pensioners Northern Soul tea dances all over the (relative) North, being seen as progressive amongst the Charles Johnsons and Lou Kirtons, resulting in moaning and grumping about what is a great piece of music being ruined by the sound of Baaing as people dance. And Bob that is exactly what it is, although I suspect that went over many heads faster than Concorde! Oh well, maybe at least Kirk Franklin and Mario will get a rest, anyone for Brenda Boykin now??? 1
Guest Ollie Lailey Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Like both the original and the remix. Not sure about it getting Soul club spins though. Fantastic record none the less.
Dean Rudland Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 They've been hammering the remix on Jazz FM for a few months now - it sounds great on there, I think due to the compression, but on a home system the squelchy sub-bass is a little intrusive. The radio edit - about 4 minutes is available for download from Montema Music https://motema.downloadcentric.net/Product?id=D06036E80GU7BNOA78RZH
Russ Vickers Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Good luck Ste. Not on vinyl yet so no chance of plays in O.V.O. venues which is a shame......... Ian D Ian, the original vinyl only ethos only concerns original vinyl releases, the idea IMO is that tunes are played from the original format, whether that be vinyl, CD, MP3 or whatever & NOT only playing a tune if it was released on vinyl. The major problem is, that most NS venues dont even have a CD player, let alone the means to play MP3's, promoters need to get with it with regards to equipment & DJ's need to be aware of what is out there on different formats. Best Russ

Hello mate, hope you are well. A bit harsh ........I know what you mean, but if contemporary releases are played on the Rare Soul Scene I'm all for it personally, its just the DJ's tend to thrash anything available to death, instead of being sensible about exposure & how these things are fitted into thier sets. All the best Russ
