In 10 years time a few of you old gets will be nearly 60 . Do you think all nighters will be be an option then or will the time come to pick up the snooker cue and head for the club. Surly dancing all night at that age will prob not be the best idea unless promoters have bouncers and st johns ambulance crew ready! Is northern soul something you can just give up? title amended. Reg Posted November 17, 2005 Share Posted November 17, 2005 Went to the Trafford Centre on Tuesday and, whilst we sat having a bite to eat there was a tea dance going on-band playing and loads of old folks dancing away doing the foxtrot etc. Is that what we've got to look forward to? Well Im 64 and can still make it onto a dance floor for most of the night, and sometimes into the early hours. There are still people around over 60 who can still do a bit. If you look after yourself and stay DANCE FIT theres no reason to take up snooker when your 60. Never known anybody die on a Northern Soul Dance Floor yet. Could be I will be the first! Usually it's big life changes or responsibility that make people pack it it, but I'm married, got a mortgage and two kids under five, so responsibility wise i'm up to the hilt. Things can only get easier life-wise so i can't see me stopping going soul nights and nighter. How long will i last? Who knows? I'm 39, so another 40 years? I can't remember her name (wish i could) but i saw a girl collapse on the dance floor at Leicester Oddfellows in the 80s, and i'm sure i heard afterwards she'd died. Little-stevie Posted November 17, 2005 Share Posted November 17, 2005 Who knows..It depends what you call the scene or music..So many different types of stuff....60s northern will have quite a bit of fresh blood/younger people to keep it going but not on the scale of today..It would be a smaller underground scene...The scene at the moment,10 years tops i would say but who knows??????many of us are around the late 30s/early 40s and not thinking of tea dances and wheel chair ramps for a good while.. There were a number of deaths year's back, think it may have been Wakefield. More to do with what they'd taken than just the dancing. Though I'm sure they'd had a dance as well. I noticed 'title amended Shane' don't wanna whinge in site stuff, but that's three this week. Can't you pm the topic starter, or better still post a suggestion under the initial post. I always remember Derek Allan as a man playing great dance music, not as a dancer. So again, no disrespect intended. As far as I am aware, the Lancashire and Yorkshire fatalities had nothing to do with dancing. The staff at the Casino, called it the Tommy Simpson method.
