Agent45 Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 Georgiasoul.com is pleased to announce a newly activated section to the web site for feature articles, interviews and the like as we continue to document the history of Georgia soul and funk music. To launch this new addition to the web site, we've prepared a great article about one of the pioneer R&B DJs of the Georgia radio airwaves, Ed Mendel. With a radio career going back to 1943, Mendel was the first DJ in Columbus to play R&B, gospel and jazz music on their air waves. Later, Mendel ventured into concert promotion, record stores and record labels. Now you can read all about his career and influence on Georgia soul music in great detail on the web site. You can link directly to the article with this URL: https://www.georgiasoul.com/gasoul/article1mendel.html In addition to the article itself, you can also hear many of the records that Ed Mendel produced, all in Real Audio with label scans to boot. Look for the Mendel Jukebox link at the top of the article. If you don't have Real Audio on your computer, you can download it for free from https://www.real.com In other news, the label listings continue to grow, we have more CDs to review and put up on the web page and continue working to grow the label galleries as well. Keep checking back for updates as they happen and don't be shy about contributing comments, corrections, suggestions and additions! Thanks for reading! Brian Poust https://www.georgiasoul.com p.s. I'm always looking for more 45s to add to the Georgia soul archives. Please don't be shy about letting me know when/if you have any for sale!
