MrsWoodsrules Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Couple of things just wanted to mention in passing. I see a Jimmy Burns made £3,800 on the JM's auctions, wow. Second point, can't stop playing Bobby Sheen's Something New To Do, what a fooooking tune this is. Hold my hands up, I've never heard it before & what a buzz it is to find a track I just wanna play & play over again, didn't know I had such a modern taste, end of the day, this IS soul music. Does this get played out these days? Cheers ears Aid.
Chalky Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Bobby Sheen probably considered over played now. Played up and down the country for over 25 years.
purist Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Bobby Sheen was one of the biggest ever sounds to come out of Stafford's Top Of the World, championed by the Stafford supremo Dave Thorley. As Ted says it's one that has never stopped being played ever since the mid 80's, filling dance floors everywhere.

Hey Gary, should mention that I was off the scene for 20 years or so after Wigan, with would explain why I seem to be the only person north of the equator that doesn't know it. Giant void for me to fill. Cheers Aid.

MrsWoodsrules Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 British capital demo ' it was only released on American Capital and British Capital never on warner bros. What a voice he had, I presume he was lead singer with the The Coasters on Crazy Baby?? But I wouldn't know for sure & a lot of my presumptions are wrong.
MrsWoodsrules Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 Just had a quick look on wiki, looks like wasn't involved with Crazy Baby, think joined them later on. Aid
scunnyjack Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Bobby Sheen probably considered over played now. Played up and down the country for over 25 years. Was playing his Sweet,Sweet Love just before I read this. Do not know if this gets played much but been a fave of mine for years. Steve

I had a copy of Coaster's Crazy Baby a very long time ago & I seem to remember the flip side to that was one of the worse tracks ever heard to mankind, something about bellbottoms??

Giant void for me to fill. Cheers Aid. Searling played it first at Wigan
Bully Boy Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Bobby Sheen was Bob B Soxx the leader of a group called The Blue Jeans, he was also one of the figures identified with Phil Spector' s Wall Of Sound. In 1962 Sheen hooked up with Spector, and it is Sheen who is said to have stumbled upon the "Wall of Sound" Sound quite by accident. Before embarking on his Solo Career.

I've still got my copy of Hang On - just can't bring myself to let it go.

Guest SteveJohnston Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Searling played it first at Wigan That is how i know it! like Aidi never went to TOTW but i knew this when i returned in 96ish.
Ted Massey Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Don´t want to re-write history but i think you will find a certain Steve Smith(me) had been playing Bobby Sheen upstairs at Stafford for some time before it moved downstairs in fact at the same time as i was playing Billy Storm, fabulous Moonlighters,Jim and Leeand a few other things that were credited to others Valerie lamar etc Steve you were the man then mate learnt a lot from you
John Reed Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 His release before Dr Love, My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You on Dimension is a top class bit of deep soul
Jerry Hipkiss Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I've still got my copy of Hang On - just can't bring myself to let it go. AFAIK the "Wall of sound" group name is the only connection to Spector - a tribute/compliment perhaps? Whatever. still got my Big Bird issue as well...:-)
Only Dreaming Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 The flip to something new ain't bad either His follow up to 'sntd', 'if I ever dreamt I'd hurt you' is also first rate and well worth checking out on youtube. Dave
Reg Scott Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Bobby Sheen probably considered over played now. Played up and down the country for over 25 years. Agree Chalky but the flip 'I May Not Be What You Want' still has life in it as a nice modern track - neglected for so long because of the popularity of SNTD I suppose.. 1
