Premium Stuff Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Hi everyone The Tempos released 'Lonely One' on Riley's 8782 backed with the instrumental version entitled 'Lonely Night'. Some listings then show the instrumental being released again as the flip to 'Oh Play That Song'/'Lonely Night' on Riley's 8783. Does anyone have any info on the 8783 release please, label scans, or a soundfile of 'Oh Play That Song'? Thanks in advance. Cheers Richard

Chalky Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 hi richard, the flip to i'll never forget, diamond jim 8792 called disc jockey paradise....also plays the instrumental to lonely one The Tempos on that one are actually the Steptones. Premium Stuff Posted November 26, 2011 Author Posted November 26, 2011 (edited) hi richard, the flip to i'll never forget, diamond jim 8792 called disc jockey paradise....also plays the instrumental to lonely one Cheers Bri - yes, well spotted. The instrumental is also on the flip to the Steptones version of "Lonely One" on Diamond Jim 8794 entitled "Steppin' High" The Tempos on that one are actually the Steptones. Sounds like Diamond Jim simply used what was available and hot at the time. Thanks Chalky - makes sense. Do you know what the source is for this info please? Has anyone ever seen a copy of this Riley's 45? 8784 was released on Diamond Jim (The Terrifics)
G F Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Here's a clip from an interview I did with Fab and Jay back in 2002. They were with The Tempos. They say it it wasn't their group that recorded the song... Fab and Jay.mp3 ...but it could have been another group.
Robbk Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I've seen 8783 and 8784 listed, but never seen scans of them, nor seen physical copies of them, even in big Detroit Soul collectors' collections. So, they must have been dead rare, and only pressed up in extremely small numbers. I wonder if 8784 even got to the pressing stage. I 'm not sure if I've seen a scan of 8783, or not. So, I think that may have been pressed up. I'm SURE I've never seen anything on 8784 (other than its listing).

Tlscapital Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago 8783 I can't say if it exists but seen promos and stockers (like here) of 8784.

I have The Terrifics. I have seen a Tempos listed as 8783. And maybe that one was slated, maybe scheduled(or maybe never got that far), but never pressed up. If it WAS pressed up, it must have been an extremely small pressing and withdrawn, or possibly test pressing only. But one never knows for sure, because so many master copies and test pressings of projects that were previously unknown, or were listed on paper, but thought to have been cancelled before any pressing, have turned up many years later. There may be a 8783, but Fab and Jay said they never recorded a song like that, so I reckon it doesn't exist - as Tom mentioned earlier. From what people have said, Diamond Jim was not the librarrian type and no doubt his filing system was far from 100 percent right.
