Cheapsiderecords Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Picked this up at the show yetserday and it has all the attributes of a Jamaican press, rough around the label egde, flaky looking label and smaller font size?
dthedrug Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 HI ALL IT'S A JAMAICAN PRESS, NOT A BOOTLEG,. HOWEVER! I CAN SEE WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM! JUST FOR THE RECORD (Although a third world country, JA #1 industry after tourism, was the music industry, & some may think the 45s are a bit of a joke, at least an efort has been made by putting a label on) I am aware of many unusual US SOUL RECORDS & UK POP on all the wrong labels, sadly not many northern stompers were released, the tragic part of the history of JA music is that although some of the finest singers (male) and musicions, along with the producers did not predict technology! especially the CD, THAT KILLED THERE MUSIC SCENE IN 18 MONTHS, LEAVING SHED LOADS OF RECORDS, STILL TO BE FOUND? DAVE
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Hi Kev - There's no evidence at all that this record was ever pressed in Jamaica on Ric Tic - bootleg or otherw ise. Your scan doesn't give much away but it just looks like a slightly odd configuration of a regular Ric Tic demo to me. There are no Jamaican fonts of the period that accurately match the little that I am able to see of your label. But I speak from the perective of someone who knows a little bit about soul and pop releases in Jamaica, rather than expressing an opinion based on guesswork... I've never sen one but I believe that the Soul issue might have come out there, on either a Jamaican Stateside or Tamla Motown (I have contemporaneous Motown label group issues on both). The song was certainly known there as there were a couple of very good reggae covers of it, by Busty Brown and Delroy Wilson. Cheers, TONY
Premium Stuff Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I reckon it's a legit Jamaican release I have had a handful of these - white label and also on a darkish red label (darker then normal Ric-Tic) which will be the issue The last copy I had, the same as the above came from Jamaica Cheers Richard
Marc Forrest Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 my copy of the above looks exactly the same. the printing is in blue not black though. run out groove 4351-A, flipside 4351-B FRM Take it the latter part FRM indicates the pressing plant.
Marc Forrest Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I may add that I bought my copy in Toronto, Canada

Cheapsiderecords Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 This 45 was purchased from a reggae dealers box at a show in Toronto. He had lots of other Soul things on Jamiacan press but this was the only one that "stood out". Hi Tony - sorry the pic does not do the label justice but it has that rough, un-finished look about it that JA presses have and also the untidy label edge.
dthedrug Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I may add that I bought my copy in Toronto, Canada HI ALL I AM SURE IT IS A FEDDY PRESS, PETE. And Marc as you will already no! there is a large JA community in Canada, especially in Toronto, Also in the USA especially in NEW YORK CITY, That;s where all of the STUDIO 1 MASTERS are as the DODD'S took al the Treasure Isle & COXONE studio set up to, also if you look at many of the NEW YORK issues they are stamped by the original JA stamper (early ones only) apart from the labels they are the same! yet you pick them up for $1 each or you could be stupid and pay ££££'s for a Wailers tune on plum COXONE, you can't play the label?
