Russ Bit difficult when you're not up wiv fings livin' in the States but Dave Evison -the more i remember how it used to go at Wigan the more i'm impressed by what he used to achieve Every week he would manage to drag everyone back on the floor and do a brilliant spot used to love his top 10 oldies for that week supposidly the most requests He introduced me to so many classics Bobby Patterson My Baby's Coming Back To me, Monitors Don't Put off Tomorrow, Monclairs Hung Up On Your Love, Just to name but a few DJ p.s. Guest Dan
you can only have oldies djs when you have newies djs. there are no newies djs any more, because there are no newies. thus there are no oldies djs: there are only good djs or bad djs. the bad djs play the old, tired, hammered oldies - the good ones play the lesser-known stuff (and the very occasional new thing). all imo, obviously . Wiganer1
and sooooooooooooooo modest too ..lol cookie -== i think being a good oldies dj is the same as a newies one if u dont get the exposure to break either the tunes you are trying to champion are not gonna get much airing.. when i m djing its usually main spot at a soul nite or at the begining or end of an all niter but i still try and spin a few new old ones to complement the requests of the punters, while always trying to be different as with most collectors i can do old oldies til the cows come home without resorting to cds but its not very inspiring sometimes despite getting a buzz from people dancing to your records during my 3yrs at the marrs barr niter ive managed to break or rather remind the soul world that there sounds are out there still like the following , not to everyones taste but at least appealing to some Brooklyn Bridge - Free as the wind Lost Family - Blow my mind Peggy Scott - you got it all Joanne Touchstone - Walk Softly Hank & Claude Garbo - fox in a mini skirt also i reactivated aint no mountain high enough by marvin & tammi at the marrs and literally had a dozen people come and say how refreshing it sounded and they hadnt heard it for years remember once when i played heavy music by bob seger at the marrs and was lambasted by a another soulie who thought it was a youth club sound but i liked it and got two others that did so it evened it up a little also when im playing ill ALWAYs spin an instrumntal or 2,, Link to comment Social source share

Guest
No offence but where does Mr Messer DJ, I've never heard him up north, does he just do darn sarth? I do believe that Rob has DJ'd in Stoke earlier this year Mandy, he did the Hinckley alldayer last Christmas and may be DJing there again this Christmas, not sure. As I said before, he doesn't get the bookings he deserves really. His collection is brilliant and being a dancer himself he knows how to play to the floor. He is probably the most versatile DJ I know..... (Not including Mr Bicknell....Sir.....Sorry!) Anyway, if he does do Hinckley dayer this year, I am definitley going. Hopefully see you there if you can make it. Annie Link to comment Social source share
