Guest Ivor Jones Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Last year, in early April, a SoulSource member who goes under the the moniker of SHIPTOWN posted on this forum some info about singer Barbara Stant who had some releases on the Shiptown Label. I sent him a PM because he seemed to be saying he had an Original copy of "My Mind Holds On To Yesterday" by Barbara Stant for sale and that he "ran" the lable..His name on the correspondance was given only as "BIGGS"............ He confirmed he did indeed have an Original copy of the the aforementioned track for sale. I enquired how many copies he had for sale and he said,"not many,but does it matter how many i have for sale if you want the record"..........So i took him on face value and because i knew the record was pretty tough to find, agreed to pay him the $200 he was asking on 8 April via Paypal... Recently,however,i have learned that this copy is in fact a repress which he had done only the month before[i.e. March 2010] at United Pressing plant,[Pressing No. 63895 confirmed by United Pressing]........Also, someone had tried to remove or "mask" the pressing matrix number by what looked like some sort of heat mark,but the number underneath is clearly visible.......Info is all on the FRYER website by the way... In over 30 years of collecting ive never had anyone attempt such a blatent rip off,its a total disgrace. Lets be clear about this, no one apart from people like us could care less about this music and to think that someone like this is running a label and blatantly ripping of fans and collectors makes me feel sick to the pit of my stomach.... I have emailed him giving him a chance to reimburse me but that was over a month ago and ive had no reply..... he`s just a crook,plain and simple who went out of his way to rip us off.... Purely by chance,during a conversation last weekend,i was telling a freind of mine about this wretch and he confided in me that the same thing had happened to him for the same amount[$200].... " SOULTOWN" /BIGGS" is doing well isnt he ! So thats two of us[though im sure there are many more.........] Even though its not nice having to let people know your private business and how youve been ripped off,in this case i feel no shame because i know this could`ve happened to anyone on this forum. I have posted this up because i cant bare the thought of other innocent collectors/fans getting ripped off by this crook.....So im making a public appeal to you all not to buy anything from this wretch ever and im also making a request to have him banned from this forum.....How about it moderators? There was that paul kyser thing recently, plus there was that dude that was selling fake "old" acetates on here. Either way, it's totally dishonest.

Remember people ; DONT BUY FROM SHIPTOWN/HOW BIG Records......

Thanks for posting this up again,i missed this completely ,so had no previous knowledge of the info on there... just confirms it.....[not that it needed confirming for me of course]....... Howard Biggs is a total crook and Shiptown records must be avoided at all costs.......Particularly $200 costs. No laughing at the back,i can see you ! With any luck he`ll go out of business

Due to this Biggs/Shiptown's account was closed, he is no longer a member.
