Hi

I won an ebay auction recently for a nice record which the seller says he posted to me on 21/10/11. The seller has confirmed the address he says that he sent it to which is the correct house number, street, city but the post code is completely wrong (NX2 5D1 instead of NW2 5DL) Here's an extract copied and pasted from his last email to me:-

I will not be held responceble for lost postage. All the records sent on the 21 have arived at the destinations, you have to email for recorded delivery, as the postage is £1.50, recorded is more than that, and you did not pay for recorded,

Is he right about me being shafted if I didn't request recorded delivery?

If he hasn't got proof of postage where do I stand?

I haven't encountered this problem before and am a bit unsure what to do so would be grateful for advice on best approach to resolve it.

Personally i would just open a non receipt dispute through paypal. If i ever sell anything on ebay i always send recorded for buyer and seller peace of mind. It is a two way thing so for the sake of 75p ish i would rather just include it in the postage cost to start with. Mind you ,i only ever charge a couple of quid for recorded delivery of a 45...some charge three quid for standard delivery! Off topic i know but , one thing that really gets my goat is when ebay sellers quote you a postage price for 1st class delivery, then take well over a week to post it off!...totally pointless in my opinion..just get your arse down the post office a day earlier and only charge me for 2nd class!,, :D

Thanks for the advice. I've just been looking at the ebay website and now see how to open a case for non delivery. I've looked at his feedback and true to his word,he has recently had several satisfied customers but that's no help to me if the dimwit can't get my address right.

Firstly whilst the incorrect postcode is a hassle, but it will not stop your item being delivery, just delayed, there is not at NX postal district so your item will automatically get sent to the london area.

can't imagine there being too many other identically name roads in london the same as yours, so the delay shouldn't be too bad.

if the item was sent on the 21st, then it should be with you by now. So the item is either lost, or never sent.

your best bet is to go straight to a paypal dispute for item not recieved.

You have 45 days to open a case, I usually give the item a month to arrive (internationally) then contact the seller & then if there is no response or no refund forthcoming I will open a case within a couple of days of that. As a buyer I always get my money back. As a seller I always refund in full if an item doesn't arrive.

I sold a record to a guy in Germany last year (via ebay) and he contacted me a week after sending to say that it hadn't arrived. After a bit of investigation it turned out that he had given me the wrong post code for his Berlin address. Anyway, the following week he recieved the record as the PC he supplied didn't exist, so the postal service just used the rest of the address, which did. As Jules said, there is no NX post code so the record has nowhere to go. The seller sounds pretty flakey and I would file a paypal dispute for non delivery.
