Godzilla
Mrs Godzilla and I will be in London from tomorrow teatime until Tuesday morning. When I asked for tips re Glasgow I got a fantastic response - Stavaigin in particular was a real winner and somewhere I hope to eat again real soon. We've got a few things lined up but are always happy for advice from Sourcers so let's have it: Pubs (character and good choice of beer rather than trendiness), eateries, record shops, exhibitions, unusual buildings, anything worth mentioning really. We're on a bit of a budget and won't get round everything but can always save good ideas for next time. Over to you... Link to comment Social source share
Guest
The Natural History Museum is a must even if you've been before. And it's free to enter. Even the actual building is a masterpiece Also, a walk along the canal at Camden to see all the unusual residential floating homes is an eye-opener - again, free Link to comment Social source share

Autumnstoned
Hi Godz Assume your going to the 100 Club. The Blue Posts PH is the pre 100 club watering hole which is at the corner of Eastcastle Street/ Newman Street. I like the Dog & Duck in Frith Street which serves good real Ales. For used soul vinyl, there are a couple of shops on Hanway Street which is at the Tottenham Court Road end of Oxford Street. Otherwise, Exotica or Rough Trade on Portobello Road and there is also a great Market there too. I would recommend The Golden Hind Fish & Chip Restaurant in Marylebone Lane, W1. It's unpretentious, inexpensive and you can also take your own bottle of wine or beer in there too. You may need to book Whatever you do, hope you have a great time. Godzilla
Sorry - was a bit tired when I posted last night. We've had this booked for ages as it's a chance to get there when 100 Club is on. It's so ingrained in my brain that I didn't even mention it in original post - it was as though everyone was supposed to know! We managed to lose our 100 Club virginity in February this year when we got to a night with a bunch of soul, mod and R&B bands and that was great but this will be our first 100 Club allnighter. To say we're excited and, to be honest, a bit nervous, would be an understatement. Tips given so far are exactly the sort of thing we're after, so big thanks and, as we're taking the ipad, keep 'em coming! Cheers Paul Link to comment Social source share

Guest in town Mikey
For a choice of reasonable West End restaurants. Opposite Bond Street tube station is a Disney store. There is a narrow alley beside it. Walk up there and a square is hidden away behind the Shops. (St Nicholas I think, but people call it Christmas Sq). I recommend the turkish restraunt, but there is Italian, french, Greek, etc. Lots to choose from. If you want cheap and cheerful. At Cambridge Circus, at the top end of Old Compton Street, there is Stockpot and anopther next door (name escapes). they do pasta, pizzas etc. Its cheap (very cheap for London) and the service is lightening fast, as they deal in turnover. Despite that they dont ever seem to be rushing you. I agree with Karen about the Natural History museum. The Wildlife photography exhibition that is on right now, is something I go to every year. Its unmissable IMO. My fave pub in that area, is back at Oxford Circus. In Kingly Street, which runs parallel with Carnaby St. The Clachan. Link to comment Social source share
Hammersoul
If you don`t mind walking,i recommend you start at London Eye on South Bank/Westminster Bri and walk all the way to Tower Bridge. If you go on a Sat/Sun there`s usually a French Market and loads of things going on near Royal Festive Hall(check time mag or Tfl website)for details. There`s plenty of pubs/Restaurants on the way. Around back of London Bridge,Vinopolis(Wine Museum),Clink prison(london`s first prison if memory serves me right),the Golden Hind boat,Southwark Cathedral(if Churchs are your thing)and Borough market(worth checking out on Sat morning),there`s 2 really good pubs for real ale if that`s your poison(can`t think of there names). At Tower Bridge, check out Shad Thames for restaurants, you can have a meal overlooking the Thames. There`s also some good pubs just off which serve decent beer. You have the Design Museum there has well. Also worth getting on the boat which takes you up the Thames to Greenwich/Thames Barrier etc.where there`s loads of things to explore if History is ya thing. If you walk over Tower Bridge, you have Tower of london(you won`t miss it) I``d get an oyster card so you can use public transport/boats otherwise you have agro trying to pay cash on public transport. i`ll try and think of some more later on. Guest Dirk Tiggler
Not sure if this would be of any interest Godz, but the Harp in Covent Garden (47, Chandos Place, WC2N 4HS) comes highly recommended by my daughter. The Harp won this years national CAMRA award, with my daughter's pub, the Beacon Hotel, just outside Wolves, being the runners up. My daughter and a group of her friends went down to see the award winning pub completely unannounced and were made so welcome by the staff. She also recommends the Euston Tap and the Craft Beer Company too if any of those catch your eye. Have a great time! Ade Link to comment Social source share
