They said not possible, so I said no thanks. I'm still intrigued as to what it sounds like though

Pete S Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I heard it down the phone about a year ago, Gary White had recordings of it as he knows one or two of the band members, can't remember what it was like to be honest!

Chalky Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 wonder why they never recorded it maybe cause it's worse than the one they did record
Soulsmith Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 At £17 inc postage it's a bit much to pay if you haven't heard it. Tubbs Certainly is - if we are talking about the group that recorded You Can't Mean It. What a load of drivel.
Guest Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 (edited) You can hear it here: https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/searchartist....st=CHAPTER+FIVE - it's the top track. By the way.. I really like You Can't Mean It Edited November 14, 2005 by Soulgirl

Soulsmith Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Oh! £22! I see the price was bumped by someone more interested in sneakers than soul 6 bids - £22 It just flys in the face of reason.
Guest Paul Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I think I can hear laughter coming from the general direction of Barrow-in-Furness. Paul Mooney The Twilight Home for The Permanently Bewildered
Guest uroffal Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 can see (well hear) why they canned it Easily as good as You Can't Mean It then?
Pete S Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 You can't mean it - best British recorded northern soul record ever made...and a thousand times better than probably 20% of the American records played on the scene.
Guest Andy BB Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 I'd like to echo what Pete said, albeit with the percentage upped to at least 50. That said, I'm skint. Anyone wanna buy it on a white label CBS demo? Call it double whatever Pete-S quotes it as being worth. Actually wait until I've upset the soul facists by spinning at the next 100 Club first.

I reckon £150 I'll buy it for double that

Well if you do spin it Andy, and I can make it along in December (although not looking good due to a diving holiday!) I will deffo be dancing to it
Guest Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 They now have a sound bite streamed on their site - click the lates news button and the Chapter 5 Biography for a different tune. Doesn't appear to stream in Firefox so you might have to fire up your IE
Mattbolton Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 It's fucking dreadful! I love YCMI, but this is pure dross. Those horrid synthetic horns make it sound like 'Big Ian''s had his hands all over it. M x
