Can understand that Simon , but it was you that gave the idea that there was also another motive to the thread by saying all will be revealed at the end.

Must say very sorry shinhead hope there's no hard feeling's the only reason was just to see out of intrest what was the intrest to say all will be revealed at the end has the same meaning as I'll tell you later or all will be revealed at the end could be the Universal implosion at the point where the pure truth is revealed to a dying Universe regards Simon.

That's not quite fair RUSS....Given IAN'S tender years when he was first going to the states, it was quite a remarkable achievement for somebody so young and of course he could not have gone without the resources...Even so, whatever his faults, the sheer quality of so many records he brought to the scene stand up for themselves...It's taken other people a whole lifetime of digging to come up with comparable lists but IAN pulled all this off from his teens to early 20s...Being fair, nobody else has come close to managing such a feat in such a time...Secondly, you yourself are a champion of 'keeping it fresh' and pushing out the barriers....Even though he pushed them out musically too far for me and for a lot of others (and he even admits it himself nowadays) IAN without a doubt embodied the 'new sounds/keep it fresh' concept as somebody else has already pointed out...It might have existed earlier but he thrust that idea right to the forefront of the scene and pursued it with perviously untouched zeal...For these facts he has to be viewed as making an absolutely unique contribution to the scene....What people think of him personally is irrelevant but sadly always seems to rise to the top in these threads as we both know... :hatsoff2:

To be fair Rich, I think my personal perception of IL, was marred during the second coming........I found the mans attitude to be terrible. Again, I find it difficult to seperate my personal feelings from my musical feelings when listening to IL productions, some times the ego takes over.....there are some IL productions that are ok though, althought the constant harping on about the Four Vandals I find strange, a terrible record infamous by the fact it was designed to deliberately dupe people, I dont think its a coincidence that some who were duped think the record is ok :wicked: .

Best Russ

Doris Jones - No way out is my fav

Wasnt Ian involved in David Rhodes? I really like that as well

Yes he was & another can of worms that was.......trouble is, when discussing IL, you always end up embroiled in controversy........usually created by Ian himself.......

Being fair as you say RUSS, none of the above has any bearing on the truth of the things I pointed out....ie the unique contribution and massive processing of so many records, throwing up so many brilliant discs in differng styles by one person of such tender years - in such a short period - ,is a feat that has not been matched by any other individual...Secondly, the cultural shaping of the scene for future years with an almost fanatical accent on constant turnover of fresh sounds - these are things which ultimately and historically overide personality viewpoints - another point mate, if you were able to have met the great GEORGE KERR for example, there might well have been aspects of his attitude towards white performers and white people in general that you would have found unpalatable and which might have coloured your/our personal perception of him...as it is men like him retain legendary status and their personalities do not come into our assessments of their relevance....As for the FOUR VANDALS stuff, I can see the humour in it myself!.,.. :hatsoff2:

I'd mentioned earlier ( post 89) that there were several different mixes of David Ruffin's "Hurt The One You Love" and this is one of the less modern soul sounding ones ( the released 12" Motorcity take is the modern one I'm refering to)

(it's from a soul nite at the Connaught in 2007, end of the night when the lights came up and worth watching just for the fabulous take on the song, but when I look at it I cant help but wonder with the astronomical hotel bar prices they charged how did so many folk end up more than three sheets to the wind
