Isn't the label important too though? If not you may as well buy an acetate or a boot and scratch the label off. Who's to know it's the original without the label intact? I honestly believe that anyone who buys a record like that is either very mad or has money to burn. Seriously, I'd pay maybe £50 tops for that.

Makes a lot of sense especialy if you are trying to complete the label and with L T that is the one most are missing.

The labels were 90% torn off completely, the vinyl was trashed, and there was a huge warp and a crack. It was described as "VG".

They were able to clean up the vinyl but the labels were ugly and had dirt that they were only able to partially clean.

Back in the Wigan Casino days Guys used to turn up with boxes of records with water damaged labels and fantastic stories of where they were obtained ! Ballast in ships was another good one ! If you peel them apart you'll get like no label and the record will be trashed independent of that. I must have something like that lying around, although I mostly throw stuff like that away so i'm not sure.

Codfromderby Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 bought a couple of records from a dealer in new york (i think) who now deals in autographs, mentioned his name on here before, records advertised as vg+ come in filthy nick packed in old cerial packets, the records i have bought have arrived safely, bought a record by ronnie and the ramblers, "woman of mine", filthy, scratched, dirty label and the outside edge of the record seemed to have been worn with a file or something resulting in a circular 45 with a 1" flat edge,

I suppose it's just general wear and tear but the really bad ones I've had all come from Jamaica and not the Uk so it must be to do with the weather conditions and the storage maybe? I wonder what Jamaicans think about 45s given that a specific style of music is more strongly associated with their country. Like do most people think it's old crap to be thrown away or do they value them more?
boba Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 You could be right actually! when I get records from a (tobacco) smoking household, I can smell it as soon as I open up the package. it seems to dissipate quickly though. I bet the weed smell would never go away though.
