It been a few years coming, but finally Dave Thorley has found a venue to put on the first full Yate re-union. To be held on Saturday 1st, Dec. Dave says the venue Berkeley Power Station, Social Club, looks scarily like the old Stars and Strips, Sterling Suite. He has got together a full line up of original dj's, who promise to play authentic sets. With a line of Dave himself, Dave Greet, Ady Pountain, Hippo, Richard Marsh and Tony Ellis the whole spectrum of tunes from the club will be played. From the early days under John Kojak's Inter-City banner, through the Southern Soul Club promotions right up until it closed some 5 years later under the South West Soul Club.

The venue is situated on the banks of the river Severn, justs from the original location. Feed back todate has been fantastic so expect a packer, with many old faces venturing out for the first time in years, some making the trip from as far away as Spain.

In addition to the mainroom, which holds about 300, there will also be a modern room. This will host the first set in the UK of Russ Vickers, since his return from the U.S. He will be ably supported by the cream of the west including Steve Lloyd, Malayka, also hoping that Meg Wilshire and Mike Ashley will being hitting the decks. Dave asks that everyone brings a soul club membership with them for sign in at the door.

A few words on the history of this famous event

The venue started in the mid-seventies and ran for more than five years. During this time thousands of people passed through it's doors and for many it was there first allnighter experience. Over these five years it had three different promotors, the late John 'Kojac' Harvey, Dinks and Nick McAvoy and even moved venue with in the town from the Stars and Strips club to the Swimming Baths and back again. The event maintained a loyal following over its time, when many others came and went and now stands as one of the great 70's northern events. Yate also acted as a spring board for many DJ's; being the first regular allnighter bookings for the likes of Ian Clark, Dave Thorley, Ady Pountain and atttracting the big names of the day such as Pep, Soul Sam, Dave Withers and Gary Rushbrook. Those that went liked it because it always played a mix of 60's indemanders, the latest 70's 'Mecca' tracks, along side it's own new discoveries. To this day many still vividly remember certain tracks as 'A Yate Tune'.

Directions

Berkeley is between junctions 13 and 14 of the M5. 14 nearest, about 4 miles from junction. Then through the town, taking left hand fork in centre by town hall. Then follow road to end and the Power Station, club last exit of round about, easy. Map link below
