Dayo Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Back around '74 I accidentally had Radio 2 on in the car. Swear to God I heard Yvonne Baker on the Jimmy Young show. Nearly gave me a heart attack! Found out next day it had just got a London issue. Twenty years later I was gobsmacked to hear Saphires "Gotta Have Your Love" on the Brian Mathew show (nice surpise I guess). My brother in law reckons Rosko played lots of goodies, but Jess and James "Move" stopped him in his tracks one Saturday lunchtime. I was reading another thread and it just set me thinking, what's the biggest soulful suprise you've ever heard while listening to mainstream (not specialist) radio?
FrankM Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 When there was a limit on playing records on the BBC, it did not apply to new releases which could be played for review purposes as long as the label and number were given.

I have a live album featuring Otis Redding, Booker T & The MG's, Carla Thomas & Sam & Dave with Rosko introducing the acts live on stage. Just been lookin' for it but I can't place it. I remember hearing 'There's A Ghost In My House' on one of Radio 1's daytime shows.

sister dawn Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 At what age did we stop listening to radio 1? and moved onto radio two, can remember when i was younger i used to hate me mum and dad listening to radio 2 cos it wasn't "hip" to do so and sunday mornings used to be so boring listening to family favourites... Ken Bruce still has his soul slot..... Still get texts and calls from friends saying "put radio two on now they are playing northern" and always stop what Im doing to put it on if it isnt already

Was on a coach on my way to work. Thought to myself that would be great at Wigan. Always stuck in my mind. Bought the Skullsnaps on GSF that weekend at Marshalls in Burnley. The Nolan record had not yet come in! Sickener.
Blake H Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 I too remember Yvonne Baker on Jimmy Young show but how about these.... As a link to a feature on Smart Cards on Radio 4's Today programme they used The Fiesta's "Think Smart" and about 3 years ago Steve Wright played "Abracadabra" Erma Franklin and my mate Kev Johnno rang Radio 2 and they insisted they had just played Steve Miller Band "Abracadabra" Wrong anyone remember???
