Current Modern Plays July 2004 - Pete Roberts
1.John Legend-Live It Up-Unreleased.
Superb mid tempo soul off the Kanye West Akedemics unreleased album.Soulful vocals with a haunting melody. This will be in my top 5 at the end of the year.
2. Jay-6 track cd off a Japanese release on R-Soul records!!.
Color My Heart and Still are the uptempo tracks receiving a lot of dancefloor reaction.
3.Temptations-Legacy-Motown.
If you only buy one CD this year, make it this one.Superb, possibly their best album for 30 years.Part produced by Steve harvey,Love To The Musicis the instant stepper, although Something Special is my personal favourite track.
4.Mike Jiminez-The Power Project
Independant release from a couple of years ago, just starting to get the plays it deserves.Blessing is an uptempo dancer,Someday Well Get Byis a fantastic retro tune, very reminiscent of Tower Of Power, lots of strings and horns.A solid album, with 5 or 6 excellent tracks.
5.Black Science Orchestra-Sunshine-AfroArt 12"
Uplifting 80s feel dancer, originally released a couple of years ago, recently resurfaced and getting a lot of toes tapping!
6.Rell-Let Me Show You-Rocafella-12"
Been kicking around on promos for the best part of 18 months now.Great stepper.Highly recommended
7.Razah-Feels So Good-12"
Not sure if this is an official release or a naughty boot,it samples Teddy Ps When Somebody Loves You Back Very familiar and instant.
8.Omar and Angie Stone-Be Thankful-Blaze Shrine remix
William DeVaughn classic redone in 98 by Omar and Angie and remixed by the Blaze boys, ramming dancefloors everywhere.
9.Jiva-I realized-Giantstep 12"
Great uptempo soulful dancer with a jazzy, summer feel.
10.Brenda Russell-Make You Smile-Dome 12"
Great soulful/jazzy tune. Another tune for the Summer.
