Then again coupled with the other saying, " i went to tha wigan place" probably about right Link to comment Social source share
Haydn
Had some good lifts from genuine music lovers, but get let down time and time again by folks watching too many auction sites and not paying attention. Some of the worst offenders are folks that dipped there fingers into the mod/scooterist scene in the 80's. "I got hundreds of classic records mate, they be worth a fortune now!" Never have I had the honour of delving through the biggest amount of sh#te in my life. 1 Link to comment Social source share

paultp
I get people emailing me quite regularly from my website offering me collections. They are always full of boots with 1 in 20 being OG but only worth a tenner. I always reply politely that they should put them on ebay to get the best price. Some joker the other day sent me an "I've just remembered I have a box of records in my attic that I've not looked at for 30 years" email and it was obviously an email he had sent to JM (and probably everyone else) as it kept referring to records on "your website" that I don't have on my website. He had priced them up out of JM's 3rd guide, and seemed to want me to look through the list sorting out which were real and which weren't, didn't actually say if he wanted to sell them just seemed to want me to tell him the value. I told him some were boots and some were not but I was sure JM would offer him a price. These "collections" are just not worth the bother unless they let you have them for a quid a record. Russoul1
was working in a house, noticed a jacket with some northern and mod patches so when the house owner come home got talking to her and mentioned the jacket it was her husbans who was into his scooters, but she said that she used to go to soul does years ago and had a box of records in the loft. so after a bit of persuading she goes off up into the loft and brings a dusty old 50 box, on opening it was packed with old looking cardboard sleeves. well as you could imagine i was thinking whats in there well............................ yes you guessed a box of bootlegs...bollocks lol Link to comment Social source share

Harry Crosby
please tell us !!, "Until a few months ago, when we really hit the jackpot." Heres the Story, i was in a taxi getting a lift from a venue i`d dj`d at, chatting to the taxi driver, he told me his older brother was into northern soul and the usual he had a box of old records in his loft. I asked him what sort of stuff there was, he didn`t really know, but i was welcome to them if i wanted to take a look, i took his adress and phone number. Rang him a couple of weeks later and went round. It was one of those plastic covered hundred boxes covered with dust. Opening up as per usual bootleggs the usual things that have allready been said, but i carried on not wishing to be ignorant. Got about half way through and then hit a few british things. STEP OUT OF LINE, ON THE BRINK, EVERYTHING I TOUCH TURNS TO TEARS, DETERMINATION, then more bootleggs, then at the back five or six imports J.D MARTIN, JOE HICKS, DANA VALLERY DEMO, RUBIN DEMO, MICHAEL AND RAYMOND DEMO and a nice copy of EDWARD HAMILTON-BABY DON`T YOU WEEP, mike terry credits complete with nasville mattrix. Told the guy some of the records i would like, and maybe an idea if he contacted his brother to make sure he didn`t want them. He told me his brother had emigrated to Canada and he had helped him clean his house out before he went, his brother had told him to just put the box in the skip but he`d kept them for some reason. Then we struck a deal on what he wanted and i walked away lets say more than happy. Link to comment Social source share
Mach
yeah ,from my experience most attic collections are boots, and they always want top dollar for them, fair enough, but condition is paramount,.. but you always get some peeps wanting top dollar for abused recs, which are pretty much worthless Link to comment Social source share

Britishbarry
As a rep i called on a company one day , got talking and it turned out a friend of the owner had left a load of records in the warehouse . The chap I was talking to said did I want to have a look , I said yes then regreted it thinking I would be looking through the usual dross but by this time it was too late and it would have been rude to decline . What I found was any number of UK demos including lou johnson -Unsatisfied , Jimmy Williams - Walking on air . But the best thing was Davy Jones (David Bowie) You got a habit of leaving me - Parlaphone Demo , which I sold on Ebay for £1260.00 1 Link to comment Social source share

Barry
Anyone see that afternoon programme that used to be on - Garage Clearout - or summat, where they sold all their junk to the neighbours on the drive? One episode, I was sat at work on me dinner, telly on, and the bloke who was selling his stuff on this episod -maybe 60, pencil tash - walked into his shed, which was full of people and lo and behold ...on the pasting table was two 300 boxes of 7"s, with a big bloke with a rock'n'roll quiff digging through 'em. The presenter asked what they were and he replied ' some old soul stuff I used to collect?? The quiff bloke was interviewed whilst digging with a handful of stuff (say 30 7"s) - he had a massive s-e grin on his face. I watched open mouthed. They are out there. Sutty
Guy i know was riding home from his work and got knocked off his pushbike by a car at a junction. The older couple got out and checked he was ok, said "we only live up the road, come in and clean yourself up and make sure you're alright". While the wife made him a cup of tea and washed the dirt off his jacket, he was chatting to the husband, talking about how he was into records, and the guy went "oh, i've got some records from years ago if you want to have a look". He ended up doing a deal and going back and buying the lot. Sold 3 of the records for £1,500 the next week and paid his rent for the next year on the rest, and still kept a load for himself. It does happen, just not to ME! lol cheers Sutty Link to comment Social source share
