Guest Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 My good lady is trying to sort out our accounts ready for the taxman and insists on having radio 2 on as it "helps me think". I never listen to radio 2 but in the past hour they have mentioned the death of Hilda Woods and played I`ll Do Anything - Doris Troy as a tribute and just a few minutes ago played Let me Down Easy. Is NS now so mainstream that it is played on radio 2 ? God help us they may even play the Snake next.

My dad has just rang me to tell me that they were interviewing Betty Lavelle ... not sure if he meant her or Betty Lavette on Radio 2 with Stuart Marconi ... so that's probably what your good lady had on

Simsy Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Stuart Marconi All singing all dancing - was a Stuart McConie radio 2 show and was excellent I thought. Mark Lamar show on a Sunday night, top for alternate sixties.
sister dawn Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 its on a saturday Miff... SOUNDS OF THE SIXTIES.... followed by Jonathon Ross whose side kick Andy on there is a northern fan and they often play a few tracks, also mentioned Mark La Marr on his usually plays a few and of course ASADAN with Stuart Marconi, He usually does a massive new years eve programme too as well as his normal show. We made it to radio four the other week too, albeit for half an hour of highly edited stuff.... Terry Wogan I reckon is a closet soulie too.... dont forget you can replay all the shows on radio 2 via their website... Do you think they will give me a reduction in my license fee now i have given them some pr
Guest Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 I have to suffer Steve Wright on a Sunday morning. The standing joke in our house is that my wife is always out of the room when my sloppy dedication is played This tactic also helps as a distraction when I am standing in the kitchen at 10 on a Sunday morning just got home after a nighter trying to keep her attention away from my eyes

Get the odd bit of northern on other shows but usually fairly well known tracks... and yes I'm fairly sure I have heard The Snake on there Remember taping All Singing etc one New Year when I was first getting into northern - got home while it was still on and turned it up to find what I later discovered was Interplay, couldn't believe this 'ning ning ning' music was anything to do with the amazing soul tunes I'd been hearing Last couple of series not been as great IMO, but I don't suppose it's really aimed at people who are listening to soul every day.
Dayo Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Soon after the London issue came out, I heard Jimmy Young on R2 playing Yvonne Baker! True... Hmmmm.... idea for a thread.....

If i'm on the road early in the mornings or lat at nite I listen to radio 2 between 3am and 6am the Alex Lester show hes funny but anything is better than the farming stuff on radio 4 at that time Anyway he played Bowies young americans, followed by Ojays love train then the new track by Bob Marley slogans the other morning and it struck that kinda followed the progress of my mainstream musical taste outside northern. and all in the space of 15 minutes lol I must say tho I DO NOT wear a cardigan whilst listening to radio 2 is that illegal?
Tubbs Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Has Stuart Maconie done an ASADAN this year as I haven't heard it if he has. Always listen to sounds of the 60's on Sat morning usually a couple of northern/motown tracks played. Tubbs
