If You Don't Come (you Better Call)

Considered perhaps the epitome of the Sister/R&B sound! Funny how real talent of the street-level producer, as the years go by, keeps re-occurring on many highly rated 45s. The Robert Bumps Blackwell is no stranger to the big-ticket 45 - some of his work for his own label “BUMPS” sits high on most wish-lists. On this foot-to-the-floor-juggernaut again his name appears and yet again his trademark raucous production defies you not to dance. One of the rarities on this iconic Sam Cooke label, with the familiar name of J. W.Alexander & Z. Samuels completing the impressed credit line up.

Toni Basil

Breakaway

The pairing that crafted killer dance tunes for Gloria Jones, take a 23 year old dancer into the studio for her recording debut, intended for a short film theme. The combination of Ed Cobb & Lincoln Mayorga had a knack of consistently shaping the “in-your-face” girl sound, that would later grace the Northern Soul DJ sets. This particular 45 was a total flop on USA release but when first spun at Cleethorpes Pier, how did it rattle those surf-beaten stilts, as the hoards pounded away upstairs! You can imagine the rumble this tune caused…if you can’t listen again. This 1966 PROMO copy is near PERFECT!

Idols

Check Her Out C/w Why Am I So Blue

Warning: Strap yourself in before experiencing clicking the “play” button! One of the stupidly impossible 45s this label boasts. This Darnell & Taylor project crafts two outrageously great soul recordings of contrasting genres. Top side is the-real-deal - foot to the foot stomping classic style Northern Soul that would have destroyed Wigan Casino’s dancefloor. Flipside is a precise, thoroughly soulful group harmony ballad experience that will have the true-soul fan purring. Rarity and rarity alone has prevented this vocal-group Grail from being more widely known - want something really special? with guaranteed rarity pedigree - look no further.

Andy Fisher And The Encores

My Heart's Beating Stronger C/w A Wee Bit Longer

A gentle drum roll leads a purring vocal-group to introduce the contrasting but magnificent lead vocal of Andrew Fisher; the warmth and depth of Mr. Fisher’s expressive singing is elevated by strings amalgamate into a Northern Soul masterpiece; which is exactly what you’d expect with master-craftsmen Arthur Wright & Cliff Goldsmith guiding Lester Carr & Andy Fisher’s composition. If that’s not too much to handle - the flipside is almost as good! Two outrageously good Northern Soul dancers could be yours on one totally pristine disc.

Edee Leatherwood

Make It Last

yes, it is EDEE on the seldom seen first label, 1977 CHI-HEAT label the highly regarded indie that also spawned the 70s grails by Willie Dee and L. V.Johnson. What a trio that would make if anyone had all 3 releases, sitting in their DJ box - this was of course the soulful stepper classic crediting EDEEthat has enjoyed strong demand on the ICA label, which itself is a 70s jewel - on CHI-HEAT it is a rare prize.

Memphis Slim C/w Little Richard

Memphis Slim + Little Richard

UK Decca’s 60’s association with the Houston, Texas Duke / Peacock label gave birth to some of the rarest 7” British records ever to be pressed. Good example would be Ernie K. Doe’s EP we have only ever had 1 copy in over 40 years of vinyl dealing. Before you today is another equally elusive example of Decca’s VOCALION soul/blues EPs that are unbearably RARE! This 4 track blues gives up 2 suicidal blues recording from Memphis Slim one side, a rocking blues shaker from Little Richard, who follows it with a magnificent statement of pain, with a blues ballad! Collecting Brit-Soul vinyl is always challenging - this offering takes to challenge to it’s limits! Listen and weep - memory-check the scan, you may never experience a copy again.

That's What Little Girls Are Made For

the ooh so very rare and immaculate 1961 British press of the Motown label Tri-Phi 1001 - the first release on the label. In the UK this 45 sold absolutely nothing - has remained one of the most-difficult UK Tamla Motown 45s to secure. Before you today is Harvey Fuqua and Bobby Smith’s delicious vocal-group creation in by far it’s rarest form. If you collect British Motown the likelihood is you not own this 45 - or if you just appreciate really rare UKsoul 45s, this is historically-essential.

This means that the Radiants demo is now 'worth more' than Alexander Patten demo, Cajun Hart, John Andrews, Vala Reegan, well basically think of a UK rarity except for the huge ones like D Banks London, Timi Yuro and this one is worth more. To someone I guess.
