I am not blaming Soul Source, I am not blaming anyone other than the Soul Sourcers but it is we who have trivialised both the Northernsoul Scene and it now looks as if The Scootering Scene is next on the chopping block of cyber assassination.

My posts have been tongue in cheek when I thought we have been taking things too seriously but I now feel that our mantra is one of sell out, sell everything, dilute it all and water it down for commercial and easy consumption.

As soon as I saw this I thought, here we go again!

Our over eagerness to give a platform to the uninitiated has resulted in such a cringe factor it defies belief, the last bastion of Northernsoul is The Allnightrers, the weekenders have fallen into a glorified Soul Night where the dance floor all but disappears at three giving the hand baggers the bragging rights that they are hard corps.

Soulboy was dissected and discussed but bludgeoned to death by sheer numbers on here who just crash over topics like a wave diluting and eroding the foundation stones of our fantastic scene.

Yup I am a kill joy but, hey it’s only a film.

P.S

At least Vicky had the respect to go to the Allnightrers and ask those who live it.

I am with you Simon this sort of stuff is aided and abbeted by people that should know better but the little fame whore within becons and off they go again .

Just hope they wont be dancing outside cinemas again

Err, unless I've misread this, it's not a cinema film, not even a drama, but more an observational documentary about a certain section of the scene, i.e. the dundee area, and the folk who are originals from the early years of the scene.

It's most likely a short film aimed at the film festival circuit, and hardly likely to even get on our TV screens, so why all the fuss? doubt anybody will get to see it unless they hunt it down on vimeo or similar once it's completed.

quote from web site -

"In 2006 I had some success with a short film I co-directed called

featuring Steve Martin when it won the Aprile Award at the Milan Film Festival. After a conversation about my fascination for Northern Soul....."

actually john, i think the soulies in dundee are not short on imagination, considering they have a wonderful testament to the northern scene housed in the city's natural history museum...tell me other major city's in this country are shouting and balling that they have similar product, i havent witnessed any yet....and believe it or not, this PERMANENT exhibition includes.....a short film which is shown in a small but very atmospheric room....AND...shot in black & white....very vogue i would say. under the circumstances if they want to send theirselves up with a bit of artistic license, then thats entirely their decision.

Mike you are unhealthily quick to champion this sort of thing leaving me completely and utterly confused at your motives and view point considering that Soul Source is such a bastion of our beloved genre?

Surely you must take the sharpest of intakes of breath as I do when yet another camera lens is thrust our way with scant regard to the impact it has, surely it’s not all about freedom of expression because I know that posts on here have been deleted for expressing opinions and viewpoints that are moderated to be “out of step”?

Your comment on my involvement with a camera crew is hardly the same and the comment is a little cheap?

Vicky approached you (Soul Source) and a request was made to the Soul Sourcers for input for her dancing, I made no social comment and I certainly did not have any of my opinions plat formed, the clip of some of us showing her how to dance was not the main focus as you well know.

Back to the Northern Soul Film "keep The Faith", the clip of the chap wearing the Steve Cradock hat is as embarrassing as it gets for Scooterists full stop and has little to nothing to do with Northernsoul less than show how it wasn’t and you DO NOT need to be from Dundee to know this!

I care passionately about Northernsoul, I know that the history of our wonderful scene is being rewritten by those who are running rough shod over our fantastic memories distorting, diluting and becoming an embarrassing pastiche, and it’s like a clown troop doing Shakespeare!

I think there will be some who just do not get what I am alluring to, Mike this is your train set mate and you will be remembered for this a long time after you have gone, If I was Mike and if Soul Source was mine I would love to be the man remembered for saying STOP! This is enough; The Northernsoul scene is too precious and I will have no part in allowing this dross to continue.

But I am not Mike; I am just a little fat bloke who weeps while I watch something fantastic be destroyed.

nah

you can't have it both ways

one day am watching you are teaching a comedian how to dance on a video in the magazine forum

next read you slagging a very similar video saying its all down to this site and members why such are out

and that's about a video that you yourself actually posted the clip up on here!

on closing site, again nah you need to wise up, soul source is just some soul fans talking and passing on word of soul related stuff

nought to do with youtube, facebook, scooter clubs and all the rest

your not the only one passionate about soul music, you know there's loads of us!

and not all have the same take as you

you got own forum, scooter club, imber etc

you closing them ?

nah, you are wrong again

show me one moderation decision that's been made based on the members actual viewpoint rather than any other factor

dont get every call right, but like to think that all the modding on here will stand up if needed

post up what ever action you have based this call on and i will look it up

try us out

Right being a very proud resident of Dundee I am actually rolling on the floor laughing at this..... It is an artsy farty piece of work that is being done from a local photographer / artist / not got a clueby....

We the real soul people of Dundee cannot and would not stop anyone doing what they enjoy... it is nothing but an amateur piece of footage.. it has no representation on our scene in Dundee which is like many others divided by Oldies Crowd and Rare Crowd.. it was filmed in various venues. most prominent is the Dundee Oldies Charity Nights, which run 4 times a year and raise a hell of a lot of money for various Charities

The man is making from what I can see, footage of peoples first experiences with the soul scene..... it doesn't bother us up here... so why should it bother you...you are not the annointed gatekeeper of soul... certainly not in SCOTLAND ....

As said before Dundee has a huge history of Northern soul and rightly so, it is honoured in the museum.... Dundee had it's first allnighter way back in 1976.. run by Ned Jordan and Keb Darge...

See we up here just love our music and cant be bothered with the politics.. we may not agree on other peoples styles and genre of the scene, but we try to keep it at least respectful.... and anyway Imber.. you were utter shite in that clip.. all you were doing was rolling from side to side.. :P

Keepin it real....

We had a conversation with Imber last night at Burnley abt this posting.....

So now you have your marching orders... keep it to your side of the border :wicked:

hi all, I'd like to clarify a few points from the posts above, firstly Phyllis has just about summed it up, the Dundee soul scene is indeed divided between the oldies/charity nights and the Dundee Soul Club which I co-promote along with John Macdonald and Shug Robertson.

This topic is about a photographer (?) called Dillon who burst onto the soul scene in Dundee about 2 minutes ago, he has focused on filming his recent videos at the oldies nights where he considers beer towels and back-flips are still mandatory and in vogue, and the scooterboy sketch may reveal where his real interest lies, because it certainly isn't in today's northern/rare soul scene.

Last month we ran one of our Dundee nights, when he was previously handed a flyer he said he may come along to film but then asked, are we a "real soul night" so my message to Dillon as we approach our 11th anniversary is to ask Mick H. Eddie Hubbard, Keith Money etc. if we are real.......

Looking at the clip n on the web it looked good to me.It will be a shame if it dosn't do justice to the scene and the music.I would make my mind up when the I see the entire film.
