Has anyone mentioned Gail Nevels "Taking My Mind Off Love" yet? Maybe a bit 'heavy' for this topic but has a similar feel to the September Jones sessions in many respects: the percussion could only be from Detroit. I've always preferred it to the Carol Anderson cut of the song.

I've never heard this before, this is a good one. I also never heard the margaret glover cut above, no group but the weird flute makes it super spacey. the matthews definitely also fits.

Definitely the Spaceist of the lot for me, in fact there's a feeling of falling forever in this track.

sorry I have not done this yet. I put together an hour long set that I was going to play during my radio show. My car wouldn't start (I think the battery died) and I missed my show. Next week I have an interview and the week after that I have a guest DJ so I will get this done mid-december. Sorry for the delay.

Not sure what you are after bobo .... females that may make you swoon , roll your eyes back and lie back in ectacy maybe ?

Maxine Brown has many - It's gonna be alright

Dee Dee Warwick - When love slips away

Clyde King - Missin my baby

Just sorting tunes for the Brothers Of Soul night in a couple of weeks time and reacquainted myself with Ortheia Barnes on Coral.... the flipside "Joey" would fit in to your Spacey Detroit set perfectly too....

thanks a lot, those are great records, but, I'm looking for a more specific detroit sound rather than just midtempo female records.

wow this is a super obscure record, I've never even heard of it before and I couldn't find a clip on youtube. I believe you that it fits the criteria, I just don't have any way of getting a recording to play. Thanks.

Hi Bob

I can do you a soundfile of this record if you like.

Pretty sure I have your email address, but maybe you could just PM me it again just to be sure I have it up to date.

Cheers

OK, I finally did a mix like I said I would ... I did it on my radio show, though, so you have to hear me talk at certain points. The playlist included two non-Detroit tracks but the rest was Detroit. You can listen to the mix at:

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/12-11-2011.mp3?

Here is the playlist:

Juanita Williams - Baby boy - Golden World

Sea Shells - Quiet home - Villige

Miki Farrow - Could it be - Karate

Sophisticates - I need you - Mutt

Teri Bryant - Geni - Verve

Barbara Mercer - Doing things together with you - Golden World

Debonairs - How's your new love treating you - Golden World

Gambrells - Find a love - Pioneer

Monique - Never let me go - Maurci

Embraceables - Here I go - Sidra

Rose St. John and the Wonderettes - Fool don't laugh - Veep

Romey Rand - Say you're mine - D-Town

Debutantes - Strong Foundation - Standout

Three Degrees - No no not again - WB

Ultimates - Just because you've gone and left me - Capito

Brenda Tee - My belief - Rileys

Tiares - I'll never let you go - Leona

Dee Edwards - Happiness is where you find it - D-Town

Mary Wells - Keep me in suspense - Atco

Theresa Lindsay - Wonderful one - Correctone

Apollas - All sold out - WB

Thanks to every person who responded in this thread or sent me info privately. Moderators, I'm not trying to spam this forum with my show, I'm posting this here because it's directly relevant to the thread.

Thanks again,

Bob

not detroit but the 3 clydie king 45's on imperial should fit the bill....

missing my baby / my love grows deeper

he always comes back to me / soft and gentle ways

the thrill is gone / if you were a man

Cynthia & Imaginations Theres Something The Matter With Your Heart

Jerry Walker Mr Limp are both quiet spacy, dose this also mean a bit mid-tempo.

The flip of Jerry Walker 'The Flowing River' is a bit more girlie mid-tempo and spacey.

thanks so much for the feedback I appreciate it.

I never heard the mas-tok record before. I do have a double of the cha-tok record though if someone wants to buy or trade.

Dena Barnes - Who Am I (Inferno) ultimate spacey or not? :g:

Soon as I read the topic title, thats the record I thought of first!

Also Sharpetts "Lost In The World Of A Dream" Sound City. (Massive at that Casino allnighter in Lancashire!)

Hi Bob

I tried that link on your website and could not get it to play. It won't load properly. The other shows load OK though.

Anyone else finding the same thing please?

Cheers

It works for me. Maybe try right clicking it and saving to your computer so you can play it outside the browser?

I found another one recently that would have fit in well, but philly and not detroit -- Patti Ward on Road
