Premium Stuff Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 margaret glover-this will never do-mag Great tip Superb obscure 'spacey' Detroit
Premium Stuff Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Johnny (sic) Mae Matthews - I Have No Choice (Big Hit) Cheers Bob Richard
Garethx Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 (edited) Has anyone mentioned Gail Nevels "Taking My Mind Off Love" yet? Maybe a bit 'heavy' for this topic but has a similar feel to the September Jones sessions in many respects: the percussion could only be from Detroit. I've always preferred it to the Carol Anderson cut of the song. Edited October 8, 2011 by garethx
boba Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 Has anyone mentioned Gail Nevels "Taking My Mind Off Love" yet? Maybe a bit 'heavy' for this topic but has a similar feel to the September Jones sessions in many respects: the percussion could only be from Detroit. I've always preferred it to the Carol Anderson cut of the song. I've never heard this before, this is a good one. I also never heard the margaret glover cut above, no group but the weird flute makes it super spacey. the matthews definitely also fits.

boba Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 sorry I have not done this yet. I put together an hour long set that I was going to play during my radio show. My car wouldn't start (I think the battery died) and I missed my show. Next week I have an interview and the week after that I have a guest DJ so I will get this done mid-december. Sorry for the delay.
Anais nin Carms Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Not sure what you are after bobo .... females that may make you swoon , roll your eyes back and lie back in ectacy maybe ? Maxine Brown has many - It's gonna be alright Dee Dee Warwick - When love slips away Clyde King - Missin my baby
Pezer Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Just sorting tunes for the Brothers Of Soul night in a couple of weeks time and reacquainted myself with Ortheia Barnes on Coral.... the flipside "Joey" would fit in to your Spacey Detroit set perfectly too.... Brenda Tee...My Belief...Rileys
boba Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Not sure what you are after bobo .... females that may make you swoon , roll your eyes back and lie back in ectacy maybe ? Maxine Brown has many - It's gonna be alright Dee Dee Warwick - When love slips away Clyde King - Missin my baby thanks a lot, those are great records, but, I'm looking for a more specific detroit sound rather than just midtempo female records.
boba Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Brenda Tee...My Belief...Rileys wow this is a super obscure record, I've never even heard of it before and I couldn't find a clip on youtube. I believe you that it fits the criteria, I just don't have any way of getting a recording to play. Thanks.

The flip of Jerry Walker 'The Flowing River' is a bit more girlie mid-tempo and spacey. Cheers Richard
