Sebastian Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Sorry if I post this under the wrong heading. Didn't really know where to post it so it went here. Please mods, move the thread if you feel that it's out of place. Me and two friends of mine will be spending time in Memphis, TN during 13-25 October. It's my first time there, so if anyone has got any suggestions on nice places to visit, concerts to see, restaurants to eat at, locations to dig for records etc. I'd really appreciate any tips. Will be travelling around the area as well and will spend a day or two in Nashville as well plus will make it to Muscle Shoals for one day. It's not a record digging trip per se, but I will probably spend a couple of days going through whatever I might find. Big thanks in advance!
Soulfool Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 River Records - 822 South Highland or Select-O-Hits - Fletcher Creek Drive are the two I recall visiting. Can't remember which one had the old Dude with an 'Attitude' and a copy of Manship's 'Guide' under the counter, still worth a dig I reckon. Beale Street is a fantastic place to eat, drink and dance (if you wanna?), loads going on and always a great atmosphere. David.
pikeys dog Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Rent a car online for the best rate, bearing in mind that they will try and sell you 1001 different insurance add ons if you book when you arrive. Also rent one with an 'empty tank' - that way you can return it empty - and they won't charge you the earth to refill it. You can turn right at red lights so long as there isn't a sign on the light telling you otherwise (obv giving way to any traffic).
Val (Chunky) Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 loved Memphis when we were there....of course you need to visit the Stax museum.....we arrived when it was Biker Night on Beale St and it was a great buzzing atmosphere, everybody having a great time....you can still smoke in their 'Juke Joints' too
Britmusicsoulfan Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 If you like hamburgers, be sure to check out Dyer's Burgers. They have the best burgers and chicken fingers! https://www.dyersonbeale.com/
Britmusicsoulfan Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 My wife and I spent most of a morning and early part of the afternoon at Graceland. It's definitely worth checking out.
Sebastian Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 Big thanks everyone for the suggestions! Really looking forward to this trip.
