This label seemed to do quite a few reissues during its time I've had Tony Middleton Paris Blues and seen Panic, I Travel Alone. I believe Ever Again was released on it to.

All seem to be from the Amy Mala Bell catalogue, were they kosher? anybody got a list? whats the story?

I think in the beginning they were releasing original stuff (Barbara Lynn, Big Sambo), but yeah most of the later stuff is all reissues. Not sure of their bootleg status, more likely they were bought by a bigger label who then changed the focus of the label....

Kris, are you sure that the early 60s big sambo eric label is the same label as the reissue eric?

Big Sambo now there is a name thats fallen out of use in these pc times.

Still don't know if the issues are legit and just how many big tunes came out on the imprint?

Georgia Prophets got a release I think the original was on Smash?

Georgia Prophets on Smash got released on Eric as "the creation" for some reason.

I think Eric was a legit reissue label and not a bootleg label. Similar to collectables. it also explains why they're still in business.

Isn't the Creation's version of I Got The Fever a completely different recording away from The (Georgia) Prophets? I thought it was.

I dont know about completely different, its very similar but there are differences. Same group (I think) they re-recorded it if I remember correctly.

I've always wondered about the Eric releases as well, surprised there isn't more info coming

Yes, that's what I thought (re-recording). There are two guitar breaks where there should be two bongo solos.

During the 1970s, working at two import record companies in Manchester I would order oldies singles from all the US record companies The Eric label specialized in 1950s and 60s US hit singles that were first on the smaller indie record companies . All the major labels ran there own re-issue series,e.g. Motown Yesteryear, Atlantic oldies, UA Silver Spotlight so Eric picked up stuff from the smaller companies.

The titles mentioned were done around 75-77 just for the UK market. I think it would have been Selecta Disc who got them done . I suppose it would have been easier to get Eric to negotiate with Arista who owned Amy Mala Bell than do it from here. Also Arista might not have wished to do a deal with Selecta Disc for reasons that I'd rather not say.

.Arista had the Flashback series for there oldies so they could have used that, but Eric must have done a one off deal for a few titles.

It's a long time since I last saw one but were they all on a white label as compered to the normal black with red and silver lettering used for the other Eric releases?
