Billywhizz Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 I was managing a petrol station many years ago while back in Boston, Lincs. Freddie Starr was booked to play the local theatre and pulled up in his Roller to fill up. We had a nice chat and he was a thoroughly decent fella. He paid for his fuel on Barclaycard and as he signed the slip I asked if he would let me have his autograph too. The Barclaycard slip was signed... Frederick L Starr but his autograph for me was just Freddie Starr. So whether he has changed his name or it was just coincidence, he is officially Frederick L Starr. Sometimes I amaze myself at the sh*te that sticks in my mind Thanks for reply cheers billy

Professorturnups Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Jem Brittin and myself were asked if we would do a private soul night for a 40th birthday in sleepy Stanwick in Northamptonshire. I was only able to get there for around 9.30 by which time a fair few people were dancing. Right in front of the decks was former Man Utd footballer Dion Dublin dancing away like a good un. There was also a strange guy dressed in a Zoot Suit wearing spats and a Fedora. I said to my Mrs 'Who does he think he is, Kid Creole?' Never thought too much more about it until Jem suddenly appeared with a record sleeve with writing all over it and announced that he had just got it signed by Kid Creole! It didn't end there. One of the guys on the dance floor who had come with Mr Creole turned out to be the main man from Odyssey, unreal!. All three were top blokes just having a good time but it made me wonder who people have spotted on the dance floor that were there purely for fun. I know these guys were guests at a party so don't strictly qualify but thought this might be a bit of fun seeing who we might come up with.
Professorturnups Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Hi Steve - Dion Dublin actually finished his playing career at my beloved Norwich City - think that fact makes him more famous lol
Steve Brown Posted September 29, 2011 Author Posted September 29, 2011 Hi Steve - Dion Dublin actually finished his playing career at my beloved Norwich City - think that fact makes him more famous lol Fantastic! C'mon you Canaries. I knew most of his Clubs but that is a new one on me. BTW Don't forget you got free Pembo tickets if you decide to come along.
Winnie :-) Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Didn't somebody from 'Dodgy' turn up at the dome one night, maybe the guitarist, seem to recall Matt J being quite excited, or was it Greg
Guest sharmo 1 Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 John Peel used to buy loads of soul records. Freddie Starr? Didn't he just walk into the casino because he was appearing next door? Not sure I'd call him a fan. Hi Steve hope your o.k mate if your on anywhere where I'm likely to be give me a shout and I'll lend you John Peels autobiography tells you in his own words about when he lived in the States and the artists and records he encountered.I was told that He played lady in green one evening inbetween "Frankie Teardrop " by Suiside and an unreleased track by Manchester punk band Slaughter and the Dog's ...........What a d.j best regards Simon.
tammy Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Not on the dancefloor but I went to the Rocket once and Dale Winton had paid a visit. He was gone by the time we arrived but some photos came up the day after showing him on the stage (collects records I believe) Wes Brown apparently goes to the Wheel or at least he did until his transfer... Mark C i was standing next to dale winton lol when he was at the rocket, he requested 7 days to long

Autumnstoned Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 (edited) Didn't somebody from 'Dodgy' turn up at the dome one night, maybe the guitarist, seem to recall Matt J being quite excited, or was it Greg Wonder if it was the drummer Matthew Priest because didn't he co present a Northern Soul show on Radio 2 (late 90's) after Stuart Maconie had some success with his All Singing All Dancing shows? A mate of mine used to do session work for Dodgy and I got to hear a demo of their cover of "I'm On My Way" which as far as I know was never released, but which I remember sounded pretty decent. Matt from Dodgy is a mate of Greg's, he came over to one of the weekenders in Valencia, but does he count as a celebrity? I wouldn't know him form Adam if he poked me in the eye.? Not exactly Albert Finney or Tony Curtis is he? I

I To some a celebrity to others a nobody but I think that's why this has been has been a great thread as we have had such a wide and bizarre collection of 'faces'. How much further apart could you have than Eric Knowles and Paul Weller! Any more?

Otis Smith Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Thanks Pete, for correcting me, since dicovered, chris recorded, aggravation, so chances are, it was a bobby coleman, uk demo, and a, aggravation, acetate, about the only two records he had, for some reason
Soulman Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 - I bet you know / remember a lot about records though aye?! Len. I try my best but sometimes it's just not good enough. I still find the sh*te tucked away in there somewhere 1

Theothertosspot Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Saw the bloke who played Barry in Brookside at Prestatyn around the record stalls He did the relaunching of a pub down our way a few years ago, sadly it shut down shortly afterwards. Come to think of it, Phil Mitchell did a similar thing at one of our local supermarkets, this shut down too. Methinks there's a pattern emerging. 1
Guest Nick Harrison Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 (edited) Plenty down the 100 Club. Back in 80's JoBoxers....or was it Fine Young Cannibals There should be a long list of some whop have frequented the 100 Club, Mark Lamarr, Paul Weller etc..... Yes Chalks - main man Shaun Macluskey of Joe Boxer's - not only did he dance - but guest jocked alongside Guy Hennigan. Swing Out Sister attended the Winter Gardens All Niters - on the east coast. Necked phet and danced with Aminal Nitelife band members over a period of time, mainly modern rooms during the eighties as Mr Solitaire had a great ear for music and Miss D C Lee (ex Mrs Paul Weller). Guest welshruss Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 (edited) Some years ago me and the Mrs were at a weekender in Italy. Our "digs" were up the side of a steep hill ! The venue was at the bottom of said hill,,accessable down quite a dark lane only. So its about 9.30 at night and we decide to walk to the venue for the nighter (warm, balmy weather etc etc) As we walk along we can hear wild boar grunting at the side of the lane,so the misses isnt too impressed and wanted to go back to our room..At this a car pulls up.The passenger asks if we can direct them to the nighter..We said "give us a lift and we,ll take you there". Sorted we arrive in one piece. on entry to the venue our friends asked if we knew the owner of the car "nope, but a lovely girl" says i..Yep it was Corrine - and can she dance, most of the night any way..and a new friend for the wife.. Mostly see her at the Hilton in January these days (still dancing)..Big mates with Mrs Searling i believe.Very nice woman tho. Edited October 8, 2011 by welshruss
