JOE TORQUAY Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) Melvin Davis Find A Quiet Place C/w This Ain't The Way Today after a tiny flurry of copies in the early 70s that gave this 45 Northern Soul classic-status, this record now seldom comes to market. The Casino &The Pier simultaneously rocked the boards with it throughout that memorable decade, but since those times this 45 as gained and gained in value as rarity was constantly reaffirmed. This copy has fine clean vinyl, two X’s on label but also comes with an autographed flipside label by the man himself - Melvin Davis! Making this example rather unique… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 863.00 Deletts What's The Use C/w Look At Me A double-delight of girl-group Northern Soul that has never ever been re-issued or indeed received the turntable time to make it anything other than a totally refreshing danceflloor experience any time you hear it; which ever side the needle is dropped on. “What’s The Use” if a precise mellow mid-tempo that drips with class - flip it over for an exhilarating journey of stompin’ vintage style Northern Soul. Why the hell this missed out from becoming a timeless constantly bootlegged NS classic is solely down to the so few spins it’s has received over the years - rarity again gives the NS fan a drop of the proper stuff to consider…potential for monster status is frankly - obvious. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 234.00 Anderson Brothers I Can See Him Loving You Yes! A real Northern Soul Trophy! the STEREO / MONO genuine PROMOcopy. Very few collectors can truthfully boast of owning this - there is however a glittering array of counterfeits, bootlegs and re-issues that have changed hands in the most dubious circumstances over the decades. This isTHE REAL-DEAL and so very highly prized by those collectors who require a strong dose ofanti-histamine after touching any form of re-issue. Condition of this prize is immaculate! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 770.00 Nick Allen Hard Way To Go Demand for this current spin last month was simmering away nicely - it is about to boil over - hence this listing! This copy is “like new” - listen and you’ll appreciate why this 45 is currently flying high..with a lot further to go and supplies long dried up. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 159.00 Edited September 21, 2011 by JOE TORQUAY
JOE TORQUAY Posted September 21, 2011 Author Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) repeat: repeat no-repeat; "> Platters Sweet Sweet Lovin' The beauty of the EMI Stateside DEMO never ever fails to draw more than a second glance. This Twisted Wheel anthem in these clothes - The Bit-Collector will find it totally irresistible…To the Northern Soul dancer the collaboration of New York and Detroit created a monster vocal-group Northern Soul Dancer - as Buck Ram’s group tried to hitch-a-ride on TheMOTOWN SOUND, enlisting Richard Popcorn Wylie & Sonny Sanders to rework Vernon Harrell & Ralph Bailey’s replicating that Four Tops feel. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 98.00 repeat no-repeat; "> Barabara & Brenda Never Love A Robin RARE 1968 UK DEMO! You may well need a refresh-play of this Twisted Wheel spin - it has been far too long since I’ve heard it out - the soundfile will leave you wondering why this tune is not replacing some of the over-cooked 60s classics… The Gaskins duo delivered a mighty soul-sister dancer, guided by New York’s finest Luther Dixon & Charlie Fox who ensure the gals do-it-up-right! Come on DJs, I’ve just dropped a Dynamo copy into my DJ box - time to revive this one dont’cha think? Brit collectors though, will not want this traveling the NS circuit - in this format, it’s a keep n’ admire piece. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 74.00 repeat: repeat no-repeat; "> Daphine Williams I Love You Sublime and stupidly elusive St. Louis Northern Soul crossover back by the racy rhythms of The Young Disciples & Company. The attraction of this 45 is not only it’s obvious rarity but the purity of it’s uninfluenced construction. This is street-level soul made with the inspiration generated within the studio, on the day. Raw, rugged and utterly fantastic tune…that is rising in demand as you listen. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 222.00 Intensions I'm Losin' Your Love C/w I'll Search The World Not only vocal group Northern Soul excellence - but flip it over for a lesson in how a harmony 60s ballad should be served. Two utterly fabulous sides making this record one of those under-valued, ready to rise platters that collectors all try and seek out. It may well be too late now - as the soundfile and label scan by the power of the internet has made 1,000s and 1000s of collectors more aware of this platters outstanding qualities. We suggest “get a copy ASAP”… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 179.00 Edited September 21, 2011 by JOE TORQUAY
JOE TORQUAY Posted September 21, 2011 Author Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) Darrell Banks I'm The One Who Loves You a finer piece of Northern Soul has never been made - to own it in it’s rarest form in the finest condition possible, is a bucket-list quest of many a record collector touched by this man’s immense talent and tragic life story. This is the ultimate 1969 UK DEMO in just sparkling flawless condition! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 200.00 repeat no-repeat; "> Johnny & Delores Little More Understanding ( A Little More Love) C/w Sockin' Soul If you seek ‘em obscure, if you want both sides to serve you something a little off-the-wall - get a listen to this, the first 45 on this highly regarded Little Rock, Arkansas Soul independent. Extremely rare, emotional Deep Soul duet, backed with a punchy individualistic funky groove! A real collectors piece, this one. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 82.00 repeat: repeat no-repeat; "> Eartha Kitt There Comes A Time C/w Anyway You Want It The pens of Bill Giant, Bernie Baum & Florence Kaye transform the most-flamboyant of purring “Sex Kittens” into a growling purveyor of delicious upbeat girly NS. Eartha unique vocal gives the Big City Sound some extra class, serving up a fabulous 1967 classic-style Northern Soul. Seldom seen in any format but has a “perfect” black stocker this ex-100 Club anthem is every bit alluring as the great lady herself. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 128.00 Ray Pollard The Drifter + 3 The very rare 1966 French EP complete with special art sleeve. More importantly the for tracks cover his finest work for U.A. Just consider owning 1. The Drifter 2. Let Him Go 3. It’s A Sad Thing 4. All The Things You Are …check out the soundfile to experience a Master-Soul-Crooner at work! JOE TORQUAY Posted September 21, 2011 Author Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) repeat: repeat no-repeat; "> Jock Mitchell With The Fabulous Agents No Mad Woman Oooh so very hard to secure Detroit Northern Soul - utilizing the arrangement of Stewart Ames - King For A Day - Jock Mitchell skates through his own production with the same expressive vocal delivery we all adored on his Impact recordings - this session though, is heighten by fabulous use of harmony-group background vocals - so shrill they evoke visions of pure-mystery surrounding this “Nomad Woman” - absolutely riveting piece of Motor City Northern. Please note: ALL of the very times we have encountered this 45 all have very light background noise. We believe this is an production flawNOT a wear fault. In the end, this fabulous tune that lays in the grooves - overrides this minor annoyance, totally. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 229.00 repeat no-repeat; "> Jimmy Radcliffe (there Goes) The Forgotten Man Yes, we all know and love the Gene McDaniels version of this Big City beater - but our data threw up some rather surprising info. For every 25 Gene M’s we’ve had in stock over the last decade and more - we have on only one previous occasion been able to list this mighty production and Jimmy’s debut on the label. This Northern Soul icon in 1962 was completely unknown - thus this slipped 45 through the net - with minimal sales and ultimately now sits as one darn hard 45 to acquire. Click the soundfile to experience the BIG CITY SOUND at it’s most-potent! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 58.00 Edited September 21, 2011 by JOE TORQUAY
Marc Forrest Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 wow, is it just me...but melvin davis and jock mitchell really cheap...while nick allen and delettes I dont know ?
Guest Nils Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 867 pounds...is this a cheap record Marc?
paultp Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) wow, is it just me...but melvin davis and jock mitchell really cheap...while nick allen and delettes I dont know ? I thought the Jock Mitchell was cheap too, was tempted to bid even though I rarely buy these days. The sound file was the wrong side which might not have helped. I've always regretted putting my Delettes mint white demo on my sales site at a price I didn't think anyone would buy it for to make the site look better, only to see it bought after a week or so. Live and learn. Edited September 21, 2011 by paultp
Ted Massey Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 The Jock Mitchell was to expensive imo always 2-5 £ in the 80's, the Melvin Davis thats different always rare 100 to 150 even then
Marc Forrest Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 The Jock Mitchell was to expensive imo always 2-5 £ in the 80's, the Melvin Davis thats different always rare 100 to 150 even then yeah ted, the good old days... ...seriously though hasnt it been way dearer since the late eighties ?
Marc Forrest Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 867 pounds...is this a cheap record Marc? two questions in one here...867 UKP aint cheap in general. A Melvin Davis/Wheel City @ 867 is very reasonable not to say "cheap" IMO ? When did you last see one ? And what was the selling price ? I would have thought its 1K at least...seem to remember a copy being advertised on here a couple of years ago for sth like 1200 UKP (Pete Smith on a comission sale maybe ?)
Steve G Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) I was offered a Melvin Davis last year for £700. Already had it but.....it sounds a bit boring, to me it is really a collectors piece now rather than a DJs delight. Sorry for the abuse, I know it's a classic Edited September 22, 2011 by Steve G
Chalky Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I wouldn't say £867 cheap Marc, about right maybe? If you'd asked me few weeks ago how much I would have thought 800 for Melvin Davis. One on popsike from two yeas ago which sold for $1300. Have seen others for sale over the last couple of years.
Ted Massey Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) Marc still think jock mitchell is over priced and certainly wasnt expensive in the 90's either Edited September 22, 2011 by Ted Massey
Guest in town Mikey Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I've tried moving my copy of the Intensions on here f ew times. Never had a bite :-(
Md Records Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Although I think the intensions is a great record, I still think it's a rip off of "The Capitols - I Got To Handle It" anyone else see the similarities Des Parker
paultp Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Marc still think jock mitchell is over priced and certainly wasnt expensive in the 90's either Get us one for a ton or so please?
Ted Massey Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Get us one for a ton or so please? you do your own donkey work
Marc Forrest Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 alright then, must have had a false memory on melvin davis / wheel city then...maybe I saw the 1300 USD price myself before and got it wrong thinking it was UKP. Anyway, what a record and a brill flipside (not for you though Steve..its R&B ;)
Dave Pinch Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 melvin davis always sounded like a rock and roll 45 to me........one mans r n b and all that..not typical detroit anyways dave
Guest garysoul82 Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Melvin davis, cheap imo,It will be ages before you see a true original turn up again..
