Guest Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Some sad news that Mrs.Hilda Woods, the lady that worked on the door at Wigan Casino, passed away on Oct 27th, aged 88yrs. Still passionate about the Heart of Soul, her favourite person was Jethro from Wolverhampton. Although rather frail I took her to the Casino Exhibition, this time last year. The funeral is Thursday Nov 3rd at St.James, Poolstock, Wigan 2.30. Just thought everyone should know.....she had so many friends..a lovely lady....Russ Submitted by Russ Winstanley https://www.soul-source.co.uk/news/...p?storyid=12478

Rob Wigley Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Sorry to hear about this, but remember Hilda was on the door at every Casino all-nighter I went to and took no crap from anyone !!! Russ can probably confirm if she had a day off !!! What about the old guy with the bald head that used to collect the empty coke bottles in those blue bin things with the wheels--he always chewed a match stick !!! These things stay with you when you are a teenager in a strange town and harry green , first a doorman then the manager when mike died What happened to him ??

Guest Brian J Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Hailing from Wigan I used to frequent the Casino 7 nights a week at one time, including the nighters. I used to have the odd chat with her and she always had a welcoming smile for me. Lovely woman. God bless Hilda, catch you at the gates.......and don't expect me to fu'ckin' pay either!
Guest Soultown andy Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Sorry to here that a real character, part and parcel of a nite at the casino.
Guest Brian J Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 and harry green , first a doorman then the manager when mike died What happened to him ?? I think Harry died a couple of years ago. He opened a 'theme' club in the centre of Wigan not long after the Casino closed.

The Brian Clough of door ladies..................... lovely lady.
Ric-tic Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 quite amazing that a lady from behind the pay desk from a club up to 32 years ago can be remembered with such affection,in truth i think she also remembered the kids in the same way,its been great to see her interviewed by the t.v,all the staff were nice really, all casino goers will never erase that counter/stairs from their memory, its really good she lived to be a great age.
