Last few things I've got off Gemm have been the cheapest I've been able to find. Most of the main dealers like Manship etc sell on there anyway. Also the delivery time is usually really quick which is great for an impatient soul like me
Codfromderby Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 the trick is with gemm to keep trying, put in the name of the artist/label/title your searching for and look through, most of the time you will get the same stuff from the same dealers (record finder) (kopps) and well known uk dealers, but somtimes you get stuff for sale from collections in the US for a few dollars or sometimes less so keep looking again and again!!.Also if you find a decent soul bargain look at what other items the seller has for sale lots of stuff ive got from dealers on gemm has come from "search my catalogue" section. spent ages looking through uk dealers sales lists and any thing that was for sale that i,d never heard that was over 40 quid i put into Gemm search, and if it was cheap i,d buy it, two yeas later still got most of them left but its not all bad news ,found for real bargain prices on gemm Bobby hutton "come see" $25 two copies grover mitchell what hurts on uk from us $5 exportations $10 buddy miles just a kiss $10 earthquake roy hamilton $10 7 sons dont you dare say no $10 (someone had this on their list at £300) $10 wasted as it sounds like the tremeloes(only kept it as my kids think its 60,s groovey ,but if anyone wants it let me know) p.s. dont mind telling you this as i dont buy anymore.
mischief Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 (edited) My best buy on there was "if i could only be sure" Mint Demo.....$8 couple of years ago.. Edited November 1, 2005 by mischief

Makemvinyl Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Got to be Honest rare I know but have made loads of extra pennies buying on Gemm especially on newer floorfillers like jeff perry and Al Hudson Futures Mr Day Temptations etc buy cheap and resell a little higher just allow for the postage in the resale amount never a prob Doug
Sweeney Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 GEMM was a fantastic resource for rare soul (and indeed music in general) a few years ago. It has become less effective in the last 18 months or so because of its popularity and the fact that bigger dealers have an active presence on there. I managed to get some fantastic bargains about 3-4 years ago including a Brown Sugar on Capitol for $5. (the seller even profusely apologized for charging more in postage than the record was worth!) I guess people are more clued up in general to the value of rare soul records.
Blake H Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 I think the best way to get results from gemm is not to look for the obvious titles. I found "Your gonna lose me" (Jeanie Tracy) by looking under Freddy Hubbard Titles, it cost $7 and came with a superb picture cover. I also use the filters and have found some nice foreign picture covers. Also try listing the B side. Anyway Derek you always were a tight arse BH

Anyway Derek you always were a tight arse BH Two years ago i found two sellers on GEMM within a couple of weeks. One of them sold me amongst other records Tropics on topic @ 2 USD. The other one sold me: Alice Clark you hit me (WB) Linda Jones just cant live my life (WB) Lori & Lance on federal And some more @ 10 USD each. Never really bargained on gemm since then though.

Guest rachel Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Doesn't Gemm have quite high % charges to sellers which they tend to add onto their prices? Not been on there for a while but sure Manships stuff is all a bit more than it is on his own site

I find Gemm okay but agree that it has become more expensive in the last few years or so as dealers have become a little wiser
