Pete S Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 If I were to have a copy of the above record for sale in excellent condition, how much do you think I should list it for - book price being 700 quid. And would anyone be interested in buying it maybe? cheers Pete
Guest MrC Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) There was one for sale a couple of months ago, not sure if it was on here, JMs or Pat Brady's, sure it was up for £800. Definately a hard record, but a bloody awful version IMO! I lied, it was on.... https://www..co.uk/product_detail.asp?id=16039 and it was £700 Edited September 1, 2011 by MrC

So I suppose I should be looking to sell at £600 maybe?
Guest MrC Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 £600 a good price for it, are the labels on the right way round? Has someone started playing it out lately, or the Mamie Lee version, cos the price of that seems to be going up every week at the moment too.

Mamie Lee used to be so common that you couldn't give it away, £2, £3 tops. You'd never have believed it could be 50 quid. Didn't know they had reversed labels (that's the Servicemen on Patheway isn't it) but I don't have the record here, someone wanted me to sell it for them.
Markw Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I'd rather buy a home-made film of you playing funny old records and fighting off a wasp......................
Pete S Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 I'd rather buy a home-made film of you playing funny old records and fighting off a wasp...................... Fair enough - I have finished episode 2, £500 to you, full ownership rights included 1
Guest in town Mikey Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 £600 is cheap, for an ex copy. Someone would surely bite your hand off. i would if I had the money. I think it is a solid £700 record. It still hasnt turned up in any quantity (has it?). I'm one of the few who actually prefer it to Mamie Galore. I love Mamie's version, and it is quite unusual to prefer the second version you hear of a song. In my experience anyway. Tobi would be right near the top of my wants list were I collecting again.
Ted Massey Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 it has a reasonable B side bought one of Jim Wesiora for £30 and sold it not long after for similar, 500 is about right and i think it will still be as struggle at that imo
Pete S Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 Thanks for the opinions, very interesting as always, but when you're selling for someone else you have to do your best for them, so you can't sell it too cheap - by the same token, you don't want to price it so high that nobody buys it.
Mick Holdsworth Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 It may not be that important, but is it a DEMO or an ISSUE - I would say the Issue is slightly rarer, but not much - I notice the one for sale at £700 in post No 2 is listed as an Issue, but scan shows Demo
Dave Pinch Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) the other side wasnt too bad...........groovy feeling wasnt it..pats had it for sale a while unless he has a few which i doubt dave Edited September 1, 2011 by dave pinch
Tony Smith Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) I sold a copy a couple of years back for 750, right person right time I suppose, The labels were the correct way around in fact all the copies I've seen are. Has any one actually seen it with reversed label or are we getting mixed up with Servicemen? I used to play the "Groovy Feeling" side too. I bought it off Ted as stated above Edited September 2, 2011 by Tony Smith

pikeys dog Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Why anyone plays this I'll never understand. It sounds like a sloshed Tranny club-turn singing to these ears. 1
Simsy Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 It's the pick of the versions Pikey! Pete, have you spoken to Mick Smith for a price? Think he has a copy.
Pete S Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 It's the pick of the versions Pikey! Pete, have you spoken to Mick Smith for a price? Think he has a copy. He'd say it's worth half of what it's actually worth, he always does!
NUFCSOUL Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Pete - 3 main UK based dealers have all had this at 700 in the last few months. All mint and clean labels (right way?) They sat a while and it looked like 2 were maybe taken down as I didn't spot SOLD posted against them. One on the link still sat there as well. Depends what commission he wants to give or if not then at up to 600 I think it would go. People got to remember that dealers have web, ad costs etc so got to make a quid or two on top. Mamie heading up to a ton now I notice on some set sales. But what do we know as money is so tight at the moment Cheers Tony

I always say, there's no point having a record on the shelf, I;d rather turn it into money even if it means reducing it.

pikeys dog Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 It's the pick of the versions Pikey! Your listening flaps must be painted on. A perfect example of rarity over quality.
Wiganer1 Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 im sure russ used to play this cirCA 1980 at wigan...
Pete S Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 should have got it of Domar 20yrs ago .Ithink it was eight quid. So were most things
Tony Smith Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 should have got it of Domar 20yrs ago .Ithink it was eight quid. Well, in my experience it was going for more than £8 in 1991.
Pete S Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 Well, in my experience it was going for more than £8 in 1991. I think it was on one of his lists for that price around 1985
Tony Smith Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I think it was on one of his lists for that price around 1985 Also The Brooks Brothers for £5 and The Fantasions GI Joe for something similar, these were not the going rates for these records at the time Domar was all over the place with his pricing then.
Pete S Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 Also The Brooks Brothers for £5 and The Fantasions GI Joe for something similar, these were not the going rates for these records at the time Domar was all over the place with his pricing then. Still, we've all done it at some time - I still do it now!
Simsy Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Your listening flaps must be painted on. A perfect example of rarity over quality. I disagree.
Tony Smith Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Still, we've all done it at some time - I still do it now! I agree Pete but to infer that Tobbi Bowe was a cheap record then is not correct it has always been 100 times harder than Mamie Lee (which until about 5 years ago was a £3 record every day of the week, if you could sell it!)

I agree, it was always a hard record and Mamie Lee was just so ridiculously common.
Guest garysoul82 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I think it was on one of his lists for that price around 1985 your right pete, just found richards price booklet out from that period.Fair play to him,you could always find a bargain on his sales lists.Timmy carr-workin 60.00 (listed as only known copy) and Donna coleman 5.00. Tobbi bowe might be the rarer version but Mamie lee is so much better quality.
Wiganer1 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 im after a copy of this if anyone has one...
Simsy Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 im after a copy of this if anyone has one... I'd lean on Mick Smith Mark, with offers of cash & swaps maybe. He's always up for a 'deal'..
Pete S Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 I'd lean on Mick Smith Mark, with offers of cash & swaps maybe. He's always up for a 'deal'.. I think he sold his because it was such a rubbish version..
Simsy Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I think he sold his because it was such a rubbish version.. Tobbi is the only version. Best dancer.
Pete S Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 Tobbi is the only version. Best dancer. She can't sing and it's backing track is terrible. Utter rubbish. No wonder nobody wanted to buy it off me last year 1
sir cumference Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Been on Pat Bradys list reasonably regularly-maybe the same copy over and over again-I could understand why it wouldn`t sell! Pretty sure it`s been on the auction quite often. Maybe not too often-just whenever I take a look? I thought of starting a topic-"Dealers who often have the same records numerous times"

Raresoul45s Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 My experience tells me £400 / £500 is tops for this I could'nt give the last one away. Darren
