More acrobatic than me, but he get's my vote Chris 'Trickster' Harvey. Oh and Keb Darge no slouch of course.

Chris is a great friend................but imo most of Chris's moves have been copied from Keb.

Sorry if you are reading this Chris, as I know how sensitive you can be over this just my opinion.

gimme a tardis. I wouldn't be on cleethorpes pier, nor in tunstall, nor in brazenose/whitworth st or station road. I'd be at a wynonie harris gig in harlem in 1942, watching real acrobats work it on out. there's nothing, absolutely nothing to compare with those guys. they started it all off. I went to two of the above gaffs & I must be one of the few who wouldn't want to go back. now don't get me wrong, days of wine & rose etc; but it was once in a lifetime, part of growing up etc; no, I'd rather have the opportunity to see something REALLY revolutionary, like Louis Jordan & HIs Tympany Five on 52nd street. Real R&B, Real dancing... thumbsup.gif

I once watched a progrqam on the history channel or some other remote channel about the Jazz dancers, 40's 50' etc and boy could they move, sensational stuff wink.gif

Who does everyone think is the best dancer on the scene nowadays, male/female. I personally like someone who can glide on the floor with little to no effort. Always impressed with Peter when i see him out. 100mph all night long.

Cheers Paul.. wink.gif

Blimey, somebody got out of bed the wrong side.

Personally I like watching Chris, he gives it 100%

Tricks learned his moves from Kev,Kev learned his moves from Sandy,Sandy learned his moves from Gaz,Gaz learned his moves from Frank and so on the best dancer on the scene by far is Lola she was at Keele,I no what your saying Trickster is very sensitive with his Dancing Great guy on and off the floor.

A film to watch is 'Stormy Weather', featuring Cab Callowy, Lena Horne, Fats Waller and more precisely the Nicholas Brothers, where it features them right at the end of the film doing their famous 'steps' routine.

For those who haven't seen the film I recommend you get it (available on Ebay for around £3).

The film was made in 1939 in black & white (which is a shame cos the costumes & suits are somethin' else) and features heavily on blues and black dancing, plus it's a comedy.

There's also a documentary called, We Sing, We Dance: The Nicholas Brothers

telling the story of the Nicholas Brothers, Harold and Fayard. It includes many clips of their flash style which included diving splits as well as finely honed close footwork, plus short clips from the films "Stormy Weather" and "Flying Down to Rio." Jaw dropping performances! Interspersed with interviews with the brothers and other dancers.

The Nicholas Brothers

They were absolutely stunning as dancers... they danced better than they walked :wicked:

Glad to see the originals getting the recognition they deserve.I think Alvin Cash and the Crawlers and Jackie Wilson were inspirational too a bit later in the day.

Good old Brucie recently did a Sunday show about the history of dance and the inaugral show celebrated the jitterbug dancers who were out of this world - the same show celebrated the Nicholas brothers too - they're all still alive (or were at the time the show was filmed) :wicked:

Missed the show but got good reviews on it.

Sadly one of the Nicholas brothers' has died.

Vernon was the bollocks & an inspiration to me at the time.

I always danced on M's balcony too, on that bit of hardboard, the plaster would fall off the ceiling on the dancers below.

Have to agree about good ol' Carl. He's a great dancer and a really cool guy. It was a real pleasure meeting him in LA and watching him dance. He was also very encouraging to me about my own dancing, too. Being around great dancers always helps with your own steps I think. I learned a lot from watching him in person and playing back my video footage. Pretty cool guy and modest about his skills.

As for the Morris Dancing, would it be...

1. Sticks Up!

2. Backdrop

4. Sticks Down!

3. Spin?

How about tapping the sticks in time with the handclapping on the break for "Like Adam and Eve"?

As for me...I'm a FREAK on the dancefloor! Just ask Russ Vickers I danced barefoot through most of his set and had a blast. DJ Bywell and I were like two Energizer rabbits out there on the floor.

Would proberly have to agree Janine 'Dancers' being the opritive word !! cant stand all these 'dance comps' where some one will win because they jig about for a bit then do some out of timed acrobatics shades.gif

Good point Baz..Out of time acrobatics really look bad...I had some guy next to me throwing himself all over the floor to the Drifter, silly c"nt...I think its better to go with beat and the breaks..Always good to see good dancers who are dancing to the record on the decks at the time  just a thought...At the end of the day i love to all having a good time, there are a lot of folk i get a buzz from because the show raw emotion and don't really do much dancing, room for all at all niters and big venues...There was a acrobatic guy who came to the Greatstone a couple of months ago,i think he got frustrated with the tempo at times :D plus the low ceiling...He had to sniff his talc because it was not gonna be thrown all over the floor there :D ..I like to see a dancer who can do it to 100 mph and the mid tempo stuff...I hate the dancing competitions, some very good dancers out there that would never enter them...Lets see a bad/crazy dancing competition, that would be fun...Who is that girl we see at all venues, big lass who just stands there shaking her head and very little if any movement,i have never seen her talk to anyone, she just stands in the middle of the dancefloor all night doing nothing...I like to see characters like this,it makes the scene what it is,the dancefloor is for everyone...

rev..Kenny Lynch...x

ps..Heiki from Finland is a very fine dancer :P

We call her line dancer, but her name is christine. She used to go to bretby,I spoke with her one night. She is a very nice person to talk to.I believe she goes with her husband, but he prefers the modern room, which is why she alway's appears to be alone.I have noticed a small change in her dance just lately, she as added a little kick at the end of each walk and now puts her hand on her hip.

This bloke is.... and I just happened to be married to him ah... His name is Trev Roberts and won the dance comp at Skeggy last year along with Sam Evans. Dont know about what you guys think about the good dancers, but from experience if you have got a fantastic reputation for dancing and you go to a venue and feeling a bit off it and don't dance as much, you get slated for it from others. I know carl and the guys from Kingsway and all the dancing sometimes takes it out of you, as you will know Steve. I know that Carl has got problems with his Knees, but keeps giving it large on the dance floor cos its what people expect from him.... Sometimes you just want to sit down and listen to the tunes.

He'll need a big egg to fill that cup ph34r.gif I would nominate Linda from back in the day. I think she was from Grimsby and had short blond hair and danced like water..........I've never seen anyone better than her. Martin Bishop was a beautiful dancer - from Reading in the 7ts...Jo

Philipa from Leicester, who at one time was married to Ally Mayer, was for me one of the best female dancers i have ever seen, she had such an original style, which was a mix of ballet, tap coupled with traditional northern moves, during the early 80s,especially as we regularly attended both the Oddfellows and Hinckley Nighters, it wasn't uncommon to see other female soulies vainly trying to copy her moves, another one of my fave dancers was that girl who featured on "This England", i remember watching her go for it at the Casino once, had me totally spellbound does anyone know if she is still involved with the scene etc i think her name was Chris and she was either from Leigh or Warrington, Del xx

Caz from Ashby de la Zouch (her soulful face whilst she was dancing could win comps alone) and Keb. Oh and a dark haired bird (who could match me for clapping) that I saw at The Marrs Bar niter some 6 months or so ago. For footwork - my Carole. Could watch her feet for ages. When we went up to Newton Ayclioffe everybody up there was a decent dancer and it was wonderful to watch.

I won the dance comp at one of the Yate revivals back in the late 8ts & still proudly display my trophy, much to the amusement of my young son.....................happy days :):):) .
