Simon T
I picked up a flyer recently which had several dj's on it...but the thing that got me was all the dj's had (100club,CSC etc) by their names. My question is... Do dj's/promoters have the right to place these famous club names next to theirs just cause they've dj'd once there? Or would you expect the DJ's to have been resident at said clubs? Mikey I think this addition of information is only relavent when they are resident or very regular at a niter / club / event which has a specific identity i.e. back in the day when you could take for granted it would be oldies / newies / 60's newies and therefore if some DJed at a particular venue they would normally play oldies/ modern etc wherever they DJ.. However, as most places seem to be eclectic now, there's not much point in doing it. The only time when I think it is pertinent is for someone say like Keb to be associated with say Madam Jo Jo's and then you could travel to the event rest assured that he'll be spinning some of that deep funk stuff? Cheltsoulnights
Down south, many years ago, someone did a flyer and put "Wigan Casino" next to my name, I said I'd never dj'd there but he said "no, you're the only person we know who went there" Are you sure, i was told they had a Height Restriction? Cheltsoulnights
Interesting that no DJ's so far have commented That's probably because the DJs don't write the flyers. I've seen '100 Club' underneath my name on several occasions, and yes I've DJ'ed there on a fairly regular basis over the last ten years (well at least once a year over that sort of period), but as a guest, not a resident. Peronally I'm proud to have DJ'ed there and to be associated with the club in that way. Like Jo, I could put a huge list of events after my name, with very few exceptions I've been fortunate enough to get spots at almost every major niter or weekender over the last few years, so to be honest, if people haven't heard my name by now, they haven't been going out much But as I'm not a promoter, I have very little control over what is written on flyers, and it's not something I ever did when I did promote events. So really, it's not something DJs, who are not promoters, have any involvement in. Good point! As a Promoter in Cheltenham, Its a very difficult when putting a flyer together to think of something different to Glitz it up and catch peoples eyes, Especially when we have a great local following and would like to attract a few Travellers (yes i know the local caravan park might help out) But joking aside, Its a difficult job. Eg Steve Whittle (Wigan casino) Chris King (Mr Motown) Pete French (Tall Fat C**T) so lets take Dave Greet (Yate, 100 Club) This is an example You could say partly true or just untrue or more likely its just an association with those venues over the years. But the idea is to make the Promotion more interesting. Not to mislead people into coming to hear something thats not there. But Dave Greet (Wigan Casino) that would be misleading people. Just checked our site PHEW!!!!!!!!!! No typing errors Anyone got a Description for Dave Rimmer Link to comment Social source share
Guest in town Mikey
Blimey. I woke up this morning thinking it was going to be a rotten day cos I stayed up til 5 and saw the shitbag Pittsburgh Steelers beat the even shitterbag Baltimore Ravens on Channel 5. Little did I know how a simple conversation would progress. Still its possibly the first time this has been discussed, I'd like to take the credit...so I will Link to comment Social source share

Guest CapitolSC
IMO only club names of past or present resident DJ's of that club should be used in promotion . S x Link to comment Social source share

As you are aware I'm a paid up punter who is deeply offended by said Soul Police. I have read the argument & listened to both sides of the argument. My considered opinion is that I couldn't give a shit what people do. Best regards Col. Edited November 3, 2005 by Soulsmith Link to comment Social source share

Guest in town Mikey
I've already got the disguise. A short fat ginger bloke. Noone will recognise me now. Some interesting stuff discussed, but probably best to let it lie. Link to comment Social source share
Boogaloo
At least Warren at Boogaloo usually gives us his set list several weeks in advance so it is possible to stay in the pub for a bit and then arrive when a tune you want to hear is going to be played. Oi, yer cheeky bugger. You know we've got our own bar and dedicated waitress service. I assume you're referring to the RnB night on the 5th. Purely to let those who are coming know what they are getting. Doesn't stop everyone moaning but we can say 'you were warned'. Mr Boogaloo Link to comment Social source share
Guest Stuart T
That used to be my local upstairs, dreadful pub, wouldn't dream of drinking there now. Hope to see you on Saturday. Link to comment Social source share
Guest Polyvelts
The great thing about the 100 club flyers (from day one ) was that they always took the piss out of themselves with new stupid nicknames and aka's and pseudonyms which was , I thought, a reaction to how seriously the 'big 'uns' took themselves, I remember reading Ady describing the wives and girlfriends sitting behind the djs on the stage at Wigan as being like 'minor royalty' which was hilariously True ! The good thing about the 100 club was it's return to home grown GRASS ROOTS soul, not relying on the pull of big names (who ultimately ended up queing up to get a spot along with mere mortals!).
